Bobcat Mightly Runners
Bobcat Mightly Runners is setting a goal for all 2nd graders to run 26.75 miles during free play this school year. Metals and awards will be given as different goals are reached during the school year to increase motivation. Hopefully it will help with students becoming overweight at a young age.

Your idea
Are you a
Teacher
How does your innovation currently get kids (or how might it get kids) engaged in physical activity? How would your idea or project potentially be implemented during the school day?
Running, jogging, or walking on the outside track inside the playground area of the school. During recess everday, each student in 2nd grade will have the opportunity to complete as many laps a each student can. These will be recorded on a wall inside the school and will be used for rewards along the way. The plysical education teacher will also work with the students during their physical education classes each week. The guidance counselor will also work with them about finding healthy choices.

How many children does this program currently or plan to serve? How much time does each child spend daily/weekly engaged in physical activity? (150 words max)
We will start with 73 2nd graders. They presently spent about 2 hours each week while at school. They spend about one hour a week with the guidance counselor and about fifteen minutes a day eating a mid-morning snack consisting of a fruit or vegetable. 100% of the students receive 100% free lunch and breakast each day.

Tell us the story behind the social innovator. (150 words max)
Our school is a Title I school with 100% free and reduce lunch status. We have about 901% Hispansic, 2% White, 2% Blak,1% Asian, 4% Mixed. We are located in an urban small town setting. Our students live within three miles of the school. I am always looking for ways to get students to make decision that will follow them throughout their lifetime. Maybe we will have a future track star or just adults that will know the importance of exercise and healthy food choices for themselves and their families.
