Kids Count Too
I developed the Kids Count Too walk for rewards program to create incentives to kids to get on their feet. Great prizes by simply tracking steps with a pedometer. I do not have the funds for the launch.

How does your innovation currently get kids (or how might it get kids) engaged in physical activity? How would your idea or project potentially be implemented during the school day?
I developed a kids social fitness blog where kids can learn about how fun and fabulous fitness can be. The kids blog has a Kids Count Too Program where they can earn prizes for getting on their feet and walking to earn rewards counting steps at milestones. The program is designed with a certified athletic trainer who specializes in youth fitness, great rewards like custom painted kicks, tshirts, ipods, and service under privileged kids who don't have economic means to participate in sports, etc. Kids with a sedentary lifestyle who are at risk for obesity or juvenile diabetes. The program is designed to get kids walking in groups, at schools, in communities, and once they get walking, eventually they can move into other types of activities. Walking is safe, it's free, it's the best exercise for sedentary youth.
I worked with Senator Valerie Weiner of Nevada to develop a program that can be launched in the schools as part of a curriculum. She has led successful walking programs in Clark County Nevada and we mapped out the foundation.
Name Your Project
Kids Count Too
How many children does this program currently or plan to serve? How much time does each child spend daily/weekly engaged in physical activity? (150 words max)
The program can serve unlimited numbers of children around the world. It's an online program. Each child can walk at their individual pace and distance and create their own goals and achieve rewards at self set milestones.

Tell us the story behind the social innovator. (150 words max)
Diabetes and obesity run in my family. Generations have died and suffered from amputations, and health related complications. I was determined to break the cycle by self educating and teaching my own children about the importance of fitness. I was gestationally diabetic with two of the kids and to this day, the education provided has guaranteed that the fate of diabetes and obesity will never cross their paths. They love walking, are in marathons and the cycle ends here. I believe we can multiply this effort for all youth we can reach.
