A program to promote daily physical activity, leading to improving personal levels of physical fitness, is a very good idea. You can't keep children strong and healthy on an hour or even two of physical activity a week.

To make sure all physical abilities are developed, it's good to have a variety of sports, not just the major sports like basketball and baseball. Those are important sports, but tumbling, volleyball, jump rope and wrestling are good sports. The key is consistent effort, not just an hour or two once a week.

Jump rope is a good activity to add since it is low cost and trains for speed like track, and for agility and balance like gymnastics. That's the reason I think it would be good to add to a well-rounded sports program:

Best of all, this is not a theoretical program. It's a program in action. The program I'm developing on the ground in East Africa can absolutely be implemented in the schools of Georgia. In fact, jump rope to fight youth obesity is now being implemented in Indiana. See:
