How does your innovation currently get kids (or how might it get kids) engaged in physical activity? How would your idea or project potentially be implemented during the school day?
We bring excitement to Kilometer Kids by promoting fitness through running. One way of varied activities is through running drills. By having Kilometer Kids run with their Pet Rock, it will help them learn new running and coordination skills varying at different age groups and abilities. Running Rock can be incorporated during school or after school in physical fitness activies.

How many children does this program currently or plan to serve? How much time does each child spend daily/weekly engaged in physical activity? (150 words max)
Currently we are serving close to 1,000 young runners in 5 counties and 49 sites. Kilometer Kids practice twice a week for 10 weeks, their goal is to run a marathon over that 10 week period. The youth practice for approximately one hour each session.

Tell us the story behind the social innovator. (150 words max)
We wanted to teach the value of motivation and show the kids that running can be fun and is something they can do throughout their lifetime. When running, it's not a matter of finishing first, it's a matter of having fun while finishing and reaching their goal. In order to measure progress, the Pet Rock running technique was introduced and helped the young runners visualze and see their progress on a weekly basis. We have kids name their Pet Rocks.
