Bobcat Mightly Runners is setting a goal for all 2nd graders to run 26.75 miles during free play this school year.
Metals and awards will be given as different goals are reached during the year to increase motivation.
2nd graders are a targeted group because 2rd graders in GA have a weight problem.
Reason:
It is an excellent way for students to learn how to develop healthy lifestyles at an early age while having fun at the same time. Our school is a Title I school with 100% free and reduce lunch status. Our students live within three miles of the school. Most of their physical activities takes place at school. Since our track is available after school and on weekends, maybe the students will want to bring their families back to the school for some additional exercises. We are presently offering a mid-morning snack consisting of a fruit or vegetable to help them learn the importance of healthy eating habits. Having rewards spaced out along their 26.75 mile journey will help keep them motivated.
