AIDS Vancouver Island (AVI) is a community-based AIDS Service Organization (ASO). We have offices in the communities of Greater Victoria, Nanaimo, the Comox Valley, and Campbell River, and also offer services in the Port Hardy area. Our catchment area includes all of the Gulf Islands.

At AIDS Vancouver Island we provide education, advocacy and support clients. AVI provides education and prevention information to schools, the broader community and target populations. Evidence demonstrates that comprehensive prevention programs can help to effectively contain HIV, hepatitis C, and other communicable diseases.

 

Reason:

I have long admired this organizations ability to reach an integral and vulnerable population of people. In addition its amazing volunteer programs directly impact not only people using their services but allows the community to get involved directly in an important and growing issue of public health and safety.
