Peace Energy Co-op

Peace Energy Co-op, a group of community activists have set up their first wind turbine (7.5 megawatts,) on what will ultimately be a 50 megawatt wind farm in Dawson Creek, BC. Over 1,500 residents of the Peace River Region are members of the co-op, and they are producing truly locally-owned electricity.Their next project will be a common heating system that will serve about 200 homes in Dawson Creek, utilizing an unused community swimming pool as their heat reservoir. By banding together in a co-operaticce, northern residents have a way to share in the abundance of renewable energy available in their Peace Region. It also gives them a united voice in lobbying goverments to encourage the move to renewable energy.
