Are we over reacting?

“Sooner or later, GM crops will contaminate all the others and reach the consumer, whether in fields or in post-harvest.”

-Silvia Ribeiro, Grupo ETC researcher, http://www.etcgroup.org

“…we can discuss further the benefits and risks of transgenic plants on a case-by-case basis, without criminalizing the entire biotechnology applied to agriculture. A knife can be used to cut meat, but also to kill someone. However, no one calls for a ban on its use.”

-Jaume LLoveras , Ramón Albajes e Ignacio Romagosa, professors at the University de Lleida http://www.elperiodico.com/

"The claim of higher yields through GMO's is a myth in India's fields. It is also a false claim scientifically.”

-Dr. Mira Shiva, Ashoka Fellow from India

“The only way for us to adequately feed the world population in the coming decades…lies in the ability…to increase the scientific output and improve the nutritional properties of food, and this can be achieved with the support of biotechnology.”

-Roberto Pieretti, President of the Association for Sustainable Agriculture in the Americas (CAAPAS)

...do you think we are over reacting to these contamination issues or food supply claims?

You can watch the "The Future of Food" documentary by Deborah Koons Garcia, the widow of the legendary Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia, here on the Changemakers website. Check it out on the Film for Social Change group.

The film explores "the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decades."

All I can say is the HFCS done my body in. I don't buy pre packaged foods, candy, sodas, and etc. considered junk. That being said when the HFCS was added to what I call regular foods like mayonsise, canned vegetable, canned fruits, ketchup, bread and all types of things considered good food my insuline went crazy. I almost went into a coma. I started reading the ingredents and run from the stuff and I got normal in two months. NO! I did not change my eating habits.

I search now for the GMO's and run from them. They are dangerous.

I was in the same boat. My family and I have cut out most all HFCS and other chems from our life. Feel so much better now.
