Hi Beth,
Thanks so much for your entry. I'd love to hear more about some of the projects, large and small, that ASTEP college groups have undertaken.
Thanks!

ASTEP requires each of its ASTEP College Campaign groups to be taking an active part in 'giving back' to the children in their community. Every ASTEP Student Group is required to be actively involved in at least one Local Community Initiative (LCI). An LCI must be, at least one, public and/or private, collaborative, new, temporary or ongoing effort per academic calendar year, involving working with, or servicing children. The following are a few examples of how our campaign members are contributing.

ASTEP at Boston College participants are event/awareness campaign machines. They are consistently reaching out to their college community and hosting information sessions via free performances and small holiday get-to-gethers.

Currently they are participating in an LCI at the Laboure Center (a center that provides care for the children of immigrant working parents in South Boston). They have been volunteering for the center's Youth Mentoring Program in collaboration with South Boston TEAM, (Together Engaging Adolescents through Mentoring)which is a a mentorship program, as well as volunteering with the Youth Tutoring Youth program which is an after-school tutoring program.

As I mentioned within the entry ASTEP's chapter at Juilliard has been executing a large scale LCI since 2006 in New Orleans. To read even more information about this LCI and to see photo's from this past year's trip please view the following link.

The other notable accomplishments of ArtReach have been their Site-Specific Performance Events including Riker's Island Performances, Open-Mic Nights at Juilliard, V-day Performances (in partnership with Day One, a youth organization geared towards ending dating abuse and domestic violence through community education, legal advocacy, supportive services and leadership development).
