Brian- I think you've spotted a good opportunity. How could your idea spread to other companies in other areas in the region? If that were your goal how would that influence your structure?

Also, how could you increase the social impact of your idea? Could it provide jobs for at-risk groups? How could an increase in gardening impact education in neighboring schools? etc.

I think the real potential of your idea is the potential to set a new pattern of community engagement to turn corporate waste problems into community value-adds.

Thank You! David for your feedback.
To answer your questions about how other companies can 'catch the wave" to be part of Corporate Social and Corporate Environmental responsibility is simple. A businesses success relies on relationship building and branching out to community to grow that business. A communities success relies on sustainability, and nurturing of business to strengthen the community. The Environment is the "canvas" in which the portrait of both rely on to be maintained and sustained . The GMCR story is a great example of a story that exemplifies community and business coming together to help make a difference in the global impact, especialy during these trying times. Its as simple as these 7 words."It is the right thing to do". To influence structure, I would invite others to come together in town hall type meetings to help visualize the future of sustainability, production and growth that anyone can take advantage of within a community.
With proper execution of this idea we could produce alternative jobs that support the green initiative, farming, and community/government.
Some High Schools Ag Science classes are already starting self sustained compost programs that lead to internal farming and internal food production.Ex. Schools can grow there own healthy food for lunch programs, etc....
Corporate waste is only a problem if you let it become that way. Coffee grounds came from the earth, and with life cycle analysis in place, can re-feed the earth positively sustaining those who choose to take advantage. We currently give our coffee grounds to compost companies who turn it into profit. Why not give it to communities to turn it to sustainability? Our farmers in third world countries where we get our coffee, understand this concept and use it to enhance, build, and better develop there communities. Why wouldn't we do the same to enhance our livelihoods?
