Hi Amie,
Thanks for sharing your idea for Cool School Food. I'd love to hear more about how you track impact and how you follow up with individual schools about the successes and challenges of the program.
Thanks!
Alexis
Hi Alexis,
We have been piloting this project at one school in Harlem for over 2 years. We have collected data on how many children are taking the plant-based entrees and in addition hold a Family Dinner Night each month. Parents have shared with us the changes they have made based on being exposed to new foods and also the fun learning activities that we have for families at our dinners.
We have started the project at the other schools just a few weeks ago. Each week, we collect data on how many students take the plant-based entree and we are keeping track of this. In addition we note what other entree ours was competing with to see if we note any differences.
We are in regular contact with the schools to see how things are going, and we make visits to those schools as well. If we learn of of any problems or just ideas that would work better, then we adjust. Given that the additional schools have just started the program, we will learn more as we go along. The nice thing now with multiple schools is that we share information between them and they are learning from each other.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
