Thanks so much for your entry. I appreciate what you hope to do with tracking and mapping harassment and was curious to hear more about the technologies you are investigating.
One other thing to consider as you're working on your iPhone app is all of us poor folks without smart phones (particularly if you're hoping to expand outside of the United States). It would be great to have a texting feature (similar to twitter or foursquare) that provides an additional reporting option.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments. Coming from a career in anti-poverty, I am committed to making this technology available to all ASAP. In June, we will launch the iPhone app, new website, and mobile browser. This will allow anyone to "hollaback" through their internet-enabled phone or directly through the website.
If our fundraising goals are met, we anticipate that we will be able to bring on the SMS texting option within the first 6 months of launch. SMS texting is surprising more costly and time intensive than the development of an iPhone app, and requires more training of users if we are going to map their holla'backs. Still, it is important to us that we make this option available as soon as possible to maximize access. I have edited the proposal to better reflect these plans.
