This project has been a grass-root effort to eradicate an invasive weed species, variable milfoil, in Big Island Pond. Big Island Pond is a large (over 500 acre) lake in southern New Hampshire. It is located in Derry, Hampstead, and Atkinson, NH. A decision by residents not to use chemical treatment to eradicate milfoil resulted in a grass roots movement to use a Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting Method (DASH) to remove approximately 100 acres of milfoil growth.
