Capital Good Fund
Location
The Capital Good Fund (CGF) seeks to create a poverty-free, inclusive green economy through innovative microfinance and technical assistance. CGF offers loans to low/moderate-income individuals in New England to start or expand green business. CGF also encourages community participation and advancement through its citizenship loan program. CGF complements its loan programs with workshops that engage community members on topics ranging from business planning to financial literacy, to environmentally sustainable practices.
Reason:
CGF’s approach to developing an upwardly mobile economy is truly grassroots because it directly engages low and moderate-income individuals on economic and environmental issues that matter to them. CGF emphasizes environmental sustainability in a way that makes clear to clients the direct economic benefit of living in a “greener” way. Borrowers not only receive loans to improve their standards of living, but also business training and information on basic financial skills that contribute to a sustained positive impact. CGF is committed to helping provide access – access to capital, forms of technical assistance, and information is what most urban low and moderate-income individuals lack in order to thrive in today’s knowledge economy.
