The End to Cyber Bullying (ETCB) Organization is a not-for-profit, youth-driven foundation whose chief goal is to limit and prevent cyber bullying in the modern, digital age.
By employing preventative measures and spreading awareness through events, public service announcements, presentations, etc., ETCB aims to ultimately create a social network devoid of cyber bullying. With immense effort, we have already reached 2.5 million people online, and our growing volunteer base boasts 200 devoted individuals.
Each day, we aim to empower young individuals to stand out against cyber bullying and become youth leaders.
Our mission: to raise awareness, provide accurate and comprehensive cyber bullying information, offer compassionate, approachable services, and mobilize students, educators, parents, and others in taking efforts to end cyber bullying. ETCB will work to create a global social networking arena where all users can feel safe and positive.
Problem
With the rapid increase in online communications, especially through social networking sites, cyber bullying is a growing problem that has gone largely unaddressed in our society today. Over 85% of teenagers have been a victim of cyber bullying, and over 90% of these victims will fail to report it.
Solution
So what's the solution? Founded by high school students, and completely youth driven, the End to Cyber Bullying (ETCB) Organization was founded to deal with just that. Our mission: to raise awareness throughout our global community, and to mobilize our youth, educators, parents, and others in taking efforts to end cyber bullying.
Example
Cyber bullying has directly impacted many of us, if not all. We’ve seen it, felt it, and we know it hurts. So what’s the next step? Simple! To continue spreading the word, and to make it spread like wildfire. Young individuals need to know that they are not alone, and there are tangible actions they can take to end cyber bullying. Since then, what originally started off as a small grassroots movement in Long Island, New York has grown into one of the largest youth initiatives in the world. Using the Internet for its greater purpose, we have reached and brought together over 2.5 million individuals across the globe. From presenting to middle and high school assemblies and working with Senator Klein to Party Shuffling with Miss New York and appearing on National Television with CBS News and Liberty Treehouse, ETCB is empowering young people everywhere.
Marketplace
We all need to take ownership of cyber bullying. It cannot be left solely on the parent’s shoulder to make sure that their child will not become a cyber bully or victim. Everyone can play a role in taking efforts to minimize cyber bullying. As a friend, bystander, educator, student, leader, basically ANYONE can play a part, whether small or large. That is why it is our mission is to inspire and show others that there are tangible and practical actions and efforts that everyone can take against cyber bullying. It is imperative that we change how individuals, especially teens, look and deal with cyber bullying. Hopefully, they will begin to develop an attitude that cyber bullying is NOT a COOL thing to do, and that to seek guidance and counsel from others is okay and preferred. Teens, parents, educators, and others can certainly take greater measures to educate themselves about cyber bullying, the ramifications of cyber bullying, and effective preventive measures. With the knowledge they acquire, they must be ready to share it with those around them.
As an organization, we believe there is no easy solution to cyber bullying or bullying in general, but by spreading the awareness of the issue, and informing the public about the severe consequences of cyber bullying, ETCB can show others how serious and how common cyber bullying actually is. We can and will be one step closer to a social networking arena devoid of cyber bullying or harassment.
