This is an excellent idea. Communities like Wilkinsburg need a focal point for public art performances where kids and adults can gather for positive interaction. This proposal pulls together many of the elements that various folks and organizations in the community are working to enhance, all in one project....youth, arts, stormwater concerns, environmental awareness and a community gathering place. A very cool vision!
Hi, Jami. Yes, that's very much what we're thinking in terms of economic sustainability. Our group envisions the added-value possibility that revenue generated from art sales, performances and feasts will bring funds into the community, a portion of which may be allocated toward maintenance of the site. Other revenue-generating ideas include a groundbreaking ceremony to promote the opening of the amphitheater (where kids and teens can literally break ground by planting the raised bed gardens) and seasonal celebrations... Spring Festivals at the site will mark the opening of each season, and Fall Festivals will reflect upon both individual and group accomplishments for that year. We will aim to attract corporate sponsors for events such as these to secure additional funds.
Thanks for your comments, Jason. We feel passionately that to give youth a strong voice, there needs to be a community willing to listen and contribute. It's our hope the amphitheater will be a space to bring everyone together for this purpose.
Me too, David! Your Power Flower is even better in person. I very much hope we'll have the chance to work together in the future. Pittsburgh is an amazing city for nurturing such progressive forms of art.
What a fantasic idea! This would create a center, a focal point for the Wilkinsburg community and serve as a place to voice creativity. It is a grand, positive idea. I want to see this happen.

It is a great idea, and very much needed in Wilkinsburg. There are creative people here and they need a positive outlet.
An idea for sustainability would be to hold public events at the venue and charge fees for seeing shows and listening to music.

I grew up in Wilkinsburg and wish you all the best with this bold project.
Thanks, David! Perhaps one of your super cool Power Flowers will want to live at the amphitheater? :)
It was good to meet you Lazae and I hope all our plans come to life.
