Changemakers Celebrate World Tourism Day with a #SocEntChat: “Geotourism and Water Conservation”
Challenge "Geotourism 2010: Places on the Edge"
In the context of the International Year of Biodiversity 2010, the UNWTO has focused this year’s World Tourism Day festivities on the fundamental relationship between Tourism and Biodiversity.
In celebration of this day, Ashoka Changemakers will bring together entrepreneurs and innovators from around the world on Monday, September 27th to discuss the importance of biodiversity as a key asset to tourism fundamental to its sustained growth. This Twitter-based #SocEntChat will also promote discussion around the importance of geotourism as an alternative tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place: its environment, heritage, culture, aesthetics, and the well-being of its residents.
Ashoka Changemakers invites you to participate in this #SocEntChat via Twitter between 11am and 1pm (EST) and share your ideas about the importance of geotourism and its role in the conservation of water sources. We also hope you will take advantage of this discussion to present your innovative solutions for coastal, waterway, and island destinations that protect the environment and strengthen the heritage and livelihoods of local residents.
How does it work?
#SocEntChat is a Twitter-based real-time discussion on social entrepreneurship themed around specific issues/areas/events. It is designed for current and aspiring social entrepreneurs, funders, media and supporters to share their ideas, discuss the state of the field, identify the latest innovations and pinpoint areas requiring more exploration.
