Sikha Roy: Building the movement for women’s land rights

Congratulations to the Property Rights: Identity, Dignity & Opportunity for All Early Entry Prize Winner: Sikha Roy, SRREOSHI, India!

Sikha Roy, through the power of her citizen-sector organization SRREOSHI, is putting land into the hands of women farmers in West Bengal.

This sisterhood is giving women -- the group most affected by rural poverty -- a rightful claim to vested land; a positive step in addressing gender inequalities and women's empowerment.

Having won the 2009 Cultivating Innovation: Solutions for Rural Communities collaborative competition, SRREOSHI has continued to work with local governments to provide legal assistance to women, ensuring their sustainable livelihoods (through the launching of seedbanks, plant nurseries, and rain golas), good health, and self-efficacy.
