The proposed project entails construction of a gigantic centralized energy Biogas plant in Nairobi the capital city of Kenya. The proposed project aims at using municipal sewage waste in gas and electricity production. The project also intends to provide organic manure to both large scale and small scale farmers. The plant is proposed to be set up near the sewage systems to take advantage of the raw materials and minimize transportation costs. The plant will also get feedstock from food and agricultural wastes. The Biogas plant will be a constructed facility consisting of hermetic digesters which will be equipped with feedstock supply system, heating systems, mixing devices, canalization, air, gas and electricity systems.
Problem
Availability of quality and affordable cooking Energy to house holds of all levels of Economy
The bio-technology proposed will ensure availability of biogas for cooking and electricity for lighting purposes at affordable prices. This will see an improved standard of living by all people.
The project has saved disposal cost as a benefit
The conflict of disposing waste with the local authorities will benefit the project as bio-degradable waste will act as feedstock to the plant for gas and fertilizer production
Improvement of health and sanitary conditions
The processing of animal and human excrement in biogas systems improves sanitary conditions. The initial pathogenic capability of the initial material is greatly reduced by fermentation process and in addition noxious odors are avoided
Reduction of disease transmission
Biogas slurry does not attract flies or other vermin, the vectors for contagious diseases for humans and animals are greatly reduced.
Eye problems and respiratory problems attributed to soot and smoke from burning fire wood and cow dung are mitigated
Reduction of gastrointestinal diseases
The anaerobic digestion of human, animal, organic wastes and effluents extensively detoxifies such materials by killing most of the ova and pathogenic material
Employment provision
During the construction phase employment opportunities will be created. After the construction is through, maintenance and service of the plants will also create more employment opportunities. Gas distribution will also create employment. Installation to big industries will also provide employment opportunities.
Reduction of deforestation
Well functioning biogas plants will greatly reduce the use of charcoal burning and firewood use. This will promote re-a forestation hence improving the quality of air and promote a green environment.
Solution
Our solution caters for a basic need that is cooking energy. This energy is needed by every house-hold on this world. Being a basic need, people are wiling to destroy the environment to satisfy their basic needs, hence a lot of deforestation. Our approach is innovative in that we are using the so called waste to produce energy and make a clean environment. The users will themselves get access to affordable gas and electricity. Less people will be involved in deforestation. There will be improvement of sanitary and health conditions and creation of more employment opportunities, improving peoples living conditions and to positively impacting on education and culture.
Example
Our model will see the use of gas by all at affordable prices making it possible to have an improved standard of living by all. This will also see a protected environment with minimized deforestation improving our environment. The absence of petroleum gas will no longer affect the society with its hiking prices. Our project will improve our culture of education enabling people to work at night hence improved production.
Marketplace
Our competitors include petroleum gas sellers as they might not be willing to let the affordable bio-gas cylinders enter the market . Our gas will always be in the market as we shall continually be producing the biogas, contrasting the very usual petroleum gas shortage that is very often in our country.
The people we hope to work with are environmental conservatives who will surely be willing to support our project.
