Eaternity is a young and dynamic non-profit association that wants to bring climate- friendly foods on your table. Eaternity‘s aim is to raise awareness of the connection between our food and climate change and to make scientific knowledge available to the larger public. At the same time, we emphasize a balanced diet and enjoy culinary diversity.

A growing world population together with a higher demand of resource- intensive products per capita imply an increasing burden for our planet and call for instant actions. We want to contribute to a sustainable, healthy and fair solution.
We see ourselves as the link between the scientists and society. Scientists know where it is important to act, and we implement the measures to assure, that we are going to act. Our vision is to establish climate friendly foods in society.

Eaternity provides up-to-date and science-based information on climate friendly foods to educational institutions, businesses, restaurants and individuals. With their active cooperation, we can establish climate friendly foods. We consult, give lectures, provide menu calculations, develop new customer-oriented projects, provide project management and marketing support. It is our aim to raise awareness of the importance of and promote climate friendly foods.

Problem

About one third of European greenhouse gas emissions can be attributed to the food supply. This amounts to more than 2 tons of CO2 per capita and year. A growing world population coupled with an ever increasing demand for resource-intensive products are resulting in an increasing burden on our planet. If the entire world population were to follow the same food consumptions patterns as the average Swiss person, we would need 2-3 the amount of land and 3 times the amount of water globally.

Solution

Innovation: 1. A climate friendly menu is not simply equivalent to a standard vegetarian or organic menu. The optimization is a result of many detail-oriented decisions which oftentimes may be counter-intuitive, even for experts. While vegetarian and organic menus are already widely offered at many restaurants, optimization of a menu specifically designed towards ecological sustainablilty and resource-efficiency aspects is not common. The menus are optimized towards the most effective balance between economic value, taste and attractiveness, healthfulness and CO2 emissions to maximize customer interest. 2. A software application will enable individuals, institutions and restaurants to calculate and optimize their own menus, label them with the CO2-value and present the added value directly to their customers. By providing an easy accessible and cost-efficient way to put into practice, our application makes it possible that climate friendly foods become widely available and recognized in society, 3. Eaternity positions itself as a non-profit organization oriented towards economic growth. The association fulfills an important role in society by representing a neutral and scientific positions, representing not-for- profit oriented interests, as well as developing and representing our core message of eco friendly food consumption. Eaternity already operates effective PR and media work via presentations, publications, events and its homepage. As a public institution, Eaternity continually builds on the existing trust it has received.

Example

A delicious, healthy and climate-friendly nutrition causes 50% less green house gases as compared to nutrition that does not take ecology into account. That is 1 ton of CO2 per capita and year. In addition, climate friendly nutrition implies a fair and appropriate stewardship of natural resources. In cooperation with our partners we have already successfully offered several climate friendly meals. To cope with the continued substantial demand for our services, we want to take our project to the next level and lay the foundation for a professional organization which will be able to further improve on and scale our proven concepts and measures.
