About the Offer:
The Indigenous Peoples Press Centre is an innovative idea aimed at amplifying the voice of the minority indigenous people's communities in Malaysia in particular. As the name suggests, it is a press centre for the communities and is set up in line with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People that indigenous people have the right to own their own media. The project serves to provide an information base for communities as well as a clearing house of information that could be shared for mutual empowerment and knowledge development. Lack of information and access to it is identified as one of the causes of poverty. The IPPC strives to address this by empowering the indigenous people with information through the power of the media. It is the hope of the people behind IPPC that the minority will participate in the information making, gathering and sharing so that their lives can be enriched. But at the initial stage this project needs to be supported either financially or in kind so it can sustain itself. It is hoped that through good support the IPPC will be able to finance its own operation in the near future. It is a hybrid model that combines entrepreneurship and community development.
