Problem

Through my work with children it is easy to see the debilitating effects of bullying on their lives and education. The news points to the fact that many of them, never finding a way to stop this pain, choose to take their lives. And those that don't often have to live with the debilitating and lifelong effects such as low self esteem and social isolation, to name a few. Through my work in safe houses, I see how these behaviours can follow people into their jobs, relationships, marriages and often gets passed on to their children. Most anti-bullying programs are taught in schools. Due to my experience working in elementary schools, I recognise that no matter what is taught in the classroom, it must be reflected at home and the wider community to ensure the greatest odds for success.

Solution

I've found a program that can enthral audiences of all ages, and inspire them to make a difference in the lives of their neighbours. It focuses on the bystanders, and offers an online reporting system, which not only tracks poor behaviours, but also

Example

Much research led me to find an anti-bullying program with a difference that could be taught not only in the schools, but to the whole community. We have a fantastic opportunity here, living in a group of remote islands with a total population of only 5000 spread out between 7 communities. I was excited to realise that if we found a suitable program, and saturated the schools and communities with it in a short period of time, that the positive effects could be monumental. That's when I found Reportbullying.com, a program that not only has a dynamic presenter, but also has 2 other big differences over other programs. First, it focuses on the bystanders, rather than the bullies or victims. Second, it offers something that the bystanders can do to help the problem, namely an online reporting system (or ballot boxes, for those unable to access the Internet) which allows the school principals (or RCMP in the community model) to follow up on all reports, as well as track specific hot spots in need of increased supervision.

Need

I have found an anti-bullying program that would fit perfectly into our Island communities. This program would be brought to all of our schools and communities over a 2 week period in October, 2012. It is hoped that this saturation over a short period of time would reach about half of our...

Need

On Spirit Day last year, I again was brought to recognize the devastating effects of bullying on our children and youth. This is especially true in our small remote communities, where the pressures of bullying and to fit in can be so intense. I realized that instead of waiting for someone else...
