Girls of the Niger delta live in wealth yet are poor, poverty among the very disadvantaged has caused young girls to see sex as a means of survival hence the high rate of unwanted teen pregnancy, HIV and AIDS, poor educational attainment among other issues in the region. Kind hearts initiative works towards encouraging a better future for disadvantaged girls and women of the Niger delta through it's girls achieve clubs, women mentoring women and educate for change programs.

Our vision to is see disadvantaged girls and women of the Niger delta living above margins.

Problem

Girls of the Niger delta - the oil rich region of Nigeria made up of seven states - live in wealth yet are poor, poverty among the very disadvantaged has caused young girls to see sex as a means of survival hence the high rate of unwanted teen pregnancy, HIV and AIDS, poor educational attainment among other issues. Kind hearts initiative works towards encouraging a better future for disadvantaged girls and women of the Niger delta through it's girls achieve clubs, women mentoring women and educate for change programs.

Solution

KHI offers sound knowledge through education, counseling and mentorship. It is innovative as it allows all girls and women the freedom to learn without prejudice, to develop with pride and to navigate their future with good skills built on acquired knowledge. Girls maintain leadership roles within the club (in each school), KHI takes its programs to schools and rural communities where it's needed the most.

Example

KHI operates in schools as a club for girls called Girls Achieve, where all it's programs focused on Reproductive Health, STEM and Leadership are executed in a girl friendly environment, girls assume leadership roles and are able at the end of the program year to show case their newly acquired knowledge to all stakeholders through inter-school drama and sports competitions viewed by millions thereby highlighting the challenges they face and their resolve to rise above all margins. our educate for change program is a rural outreach enterprise program which is carried out as workshops lasting three weeks per session and thereafter a three month mentorship, the educate for change program also allows young out of school mothers the valued opportunity to complete their secondary education as they are able to continue their education through the out of school lessons they receive and thereafter equipped with life and business skills and tools necessary to defeat poverty with the mentorship program.
