Problem

Every year, about 1,000 people die in road accidents on Lagos roads. Traffic on Lagos roads recently as become appalling as citizens (17million) end up not knowing where their destination lies.

Solution

The Lagos Traffic Map at http://lagostraffic.crowdmap.com helps to aggregate on a live map, reports from tweet hashtag (#lagostraffic) of road users, thus helping to give out early warnings to other users; and helps emergency managers in coordinating and managing mishaps.

Example

Road users (citizens) help to give out situation reports while on the road using their mobile devices, which is then aggregated on a live map that can be viewed on the internet or mobile phones.

Marketplace

There is the trafficng.com that follows reports from the same tweet hashtag and uses an SMS shortcode to inform road users whenever they send a message to the shortcode, however the Lagos Traffic Map is free and can be viewed and followed by anyone
