About the Need:
Press Coverage Needed: In our pilot project, Safe Mothers, Safe Babies was able to use the installation of a small solar unit paired with participation outreach to increase the utilization of obstetric health services at a rural health center. Participants reported a higher incidence of health center delivery, prenatal care attendance, and HIV/STD testing (in several cases increasing by well over 100%). We are excited to be working with another organization--WE CARE Solar--and a for-profit company called Humless, Inc. to do a larger pilot with 14 solar units in 9 health centers and 2 hospitals. With $50,000 of funding from the Segal Family Foundation, we will be undertaking the initial work on this project in December--and we are looking for press coverage nationally and internationally to cover our work.
