FIRST PRODUCT. a paper magazine with movie transcripts, that is, dialogues, as reading guides previous to watching the movie, intended for the general public, for movie fans, for teachers of foreigh languages or any subject, for students of cinema or mass media.
SECOND PRODUCT. a software of audiovisual material for foreign language teaching based on movie fragments to be offered alongside with any coursebook, as a self-learning resource, to be implemented in a network of internauts and skype users, or marketed through i-phones, i-pods or any such devices.
Nobody offers this product anywhere, those offered on Internet can not compare to our finished product. we could sell about 100.000 units magazines/DVD just in a countries like France, Italy or Spain, while world sales could reach a volume of $ 50 millions per year. At the same time, we could reach about 100 million user of the software product per year as well.
Problem
Using movie transcripts and fragments from TV and DVD films can enhance everybody's creativity for new products, like a magazine on movie transcripts for educational purposes whether for STEM, CLIL or FLT, etc... that would technically be a derivative work and, therefore, deemed unmarketable unless by means of obtaining copyright permissions from legal owners, which is so extremely expensive and risky that turns down any potential investor.
Solution
LiveScripts Non-profit Association has a legal framework to create such derivative materials and pay royalties AFTERWARDS once the product has been marketed.
Example
A DVD premier movie is about to be launched in September, we would publish a magazine with the complete dialogues for that movie as a reading guide previous to watch it and enjoy it without distracting subtitles. Dialogue would be broken down in different chunks for teachers to use it in their classrooms for content teaching, foreign language, etc... it could cost 1.50 Euros. per unit, (cost for digital format to be decided) and we would keep a percentage of benefits in case it is claimed by authors or Guild Associations.
Marketplace
The potential market for this kind of product is enormous. Right now, a publication by title, Speak up, represents our only competitor, sells around 50.000 copies in our country of a pack magazine/CD/booklet/DVD for 18 Euros monthly (they can not legally publish complete movie transcripts so that their booklet only shows a selection of lines). By offering complete movie transcripts, we believe we can offer a better and more inexpensive product which could sell up to 100.000 units of magazines or magazine/DVD pack for 1.5 to 6 Euros monthly just in our country; while worldwide sales could be around 50 millions Euros per year.
