First Nations people in Canada are facing serious health challenges devastating and shattering their lives. Diseases, drugs, alcohol, crime and other social evils have crippled them.

A change in food culture by introducing natural, nutritious, less expensive to replace the present habit of eating junk food can bring revolutionary improvement in the health of the First Nations people. This would establish dignity to this population, make them healthy and productive community in Canada.

Problem

The First Nations people in British Columbia needs urgent assistance to educate them on their health that is deteriorating very fast. The project will nee food nutritionists, culinary artists and personal trainers to work as a team to intervene in the community health.

Solution

About 5000 native people will go through extensive education on food and nutrition based on natural wholesome food. New born babies and children will be exposed to new food culture that the community will develop. Youths and elderly people will be exposed to variety of new cuisine. Physical activity resonating their culture will be a major component of this program. Cultural events will be a major activity through which the community will be educated and exposed to the new food culture. This way each action will be a celebration of the community. In about five years, the entire First Nations community will evaluate their own community health as against the baseline health data. Bringing new food culture, community interactions and celebrations and physical activities like sports and exercises liked by the community, what we anticipate is a healthy First Nations population that believes in preventive approach to health rather than curative approach.

Example

A community approach to public health through the introduction of new food regime to replace the existing food habit of hamburger and pops will be introduced. People participating in this project will work on their new food culture coupled with increased physical activities as opposed to sedentary life style.

Marketplace

The government and community health organisations need to work together to bring the needed change. Lack of coordination and cooperation from these institutions could seriously derail the project.

That is right. Too bad that they just thought of this now. They should have done this a long time ago.
