£2000 to cover our BSAC Snorkel Diver Award
About the Need:
We are looking for investment of £2000 to put our 8 Project Leaders through their BSAC Snorkel DIver Instructor training and certification. This covers the cost of the BSAC Instructor flying to Georgia, staying with us, course materials, and four days of training us in various qualifications. As well as the purchase of snorkel equipment.
Once we have completed our training, the 8 Instructors will be able to train unlimited numbers of young people to become BSAC certified Snorkel Divers.
This will count towards either the skill or the physical section of the International Award, and many of our young people will be able to snorkel every day on their scientific expeditions over summer with Earthwatch, and to later progress to scuba diving. This will also help us to promote the concept of safety, health, physical activity and fitness, team and personal development, and first aid.
Through the BBC Oceans television series, we have been watching the Presenters snorkelling and scuba diving, and we have already been researching and learning more about the theory behind this skill. To be able to learn this skill, will really help to boost confidence, and we later plan to undertake our own mini science projects here in Georgia, whether that be ocean based or on land.
