Camping Equipment and First Aid Training
About the Need:
As part of our International Award we need to run map skills, navigation, and camping for our young people. Our plan is to arrange a summer camp and to invite Award participants from other post soviet countries, and those around the Black Sea Basin to join us for this international camp. We want our 24 Leaders in Georgia to be first aid and mountain Leader trained in order to offer the highest standards, and we need investment to make this happen. We also need investment or 'in-kind' donations of tents, cooking equipment, and water proofs, walking boots, and backpacks which can be kept in a store and then loaned to participants on this summer camp. Together the teams at each level (bronze, silver, and gold) will sit down with the leaders, learn about map and compass work if they haven't done so already, will plan their route, and then in their teams undertake their journeys within Georgia. Then will then reflect on the experience and how they worked as a team, examine what they would change and why, and then undergo more practice journeys, before being assessed for their International Awards with an assessed expedition.
As they become more confident, we hope to plan some more serious expeditions, and to give the opportunity to participate in BSES, Outward Bound, and Earthwatch expeditions for their Gold Award, or perhaps traveling abroad to do a journey with other participants from around the world.
In this way we wish to promote self esteem, leadership, team work, international relations, and expeditions which have a real sense of purpose which can be channelled back into Georgia and all countries involved.
