The purpose of SAPT Hellas is to increase awareness of the general public in Greece (especially school children) about stray animals, particularly dogs, along with helping disabled children or adults communicate better with the world as we, non-disabled people know it, with the use of pet-assisted therapy.

Problem

The economic conditions in Greece are quite bad at this point in time. People have lost their jobs, many of them social workers that help disabled adults or children. Funding from the state or from private resources is scarce, and with this scarcity most chances of betterment of the lives of the disabled are also diminished. At this point in time, there is no real infrastructure in our country for educating our young about animal welfare and the environment, and animals in general – dogs in particular – are very ill-treated, especially in rural areas.

Solution

Our solution offers unconditional voluntary help to the diasabled, while helping dogs at the same time.

Example

Well, when an autistic 7-yr old who can't move a pen from point A to point B can brush one of our therapy dogs, what's more to say?
