The “Safe Hands 24X7” security and housekeeping services are an innovative and first of its kind in Hubli-Dharwad region. Our company appoints and manages security and housekeeping personnel to different households and organizations. The company is unique in its approach, as it provides women security guards as well. This not only meets to the needs of certain organizations like girls hostels, women’s colleges which look for women security guards but also provides a livelihood to many impoverished women.

Problem

Safe Hands 24x7 is the first organization in Karnataka with a social mission to provide economic independence to women and impoverished individuals via our emergence with female security guards. While many organizations provided private security throughout Karnataka, until the creation of Safe Hands, it was mostly considered a man’s job, and had never been started to promote the idea of high-services being unrelated to gender; rather, Safe Hands 24x7 associates high-quality to the training, dedication and capabilities of the security guards themselves in addition to a strong management team and employee performance analyses. Today a growing number of industries are beginning to employ female security guards upon realization of their capabilities and potential.

Solution

The goal of Safe Hands 24x7 originally was to showcase gender equality in all fields of service industries, while providing these women with the confidence to believe in that equality and, in return, gain the confidence to grow economically independent while providing better livelihoods to their families.

Example

Safe Hands 24x7 has grown to follow an evolving goal now greatly focused on providing benefits for its employees. While many women in the Hubli-Dharwar area had housekeeping jobs in the past, the security of employment in a private industry was not readily available. Safe Hands 24x7 provides its employees with access to ESI PF and they can be a member of Safe Hands Multipurpose Cooperative Society , which is greatly aid its employees and even those of their clients. Safe Hands 24x7 only recruits from surrounding villages and slums as well as through visits to local Self Help Groups, in which our Field Officers offer employment, taking family backgrounds, economic and financial situations into consideration. Safe Hands 24x7 employs many single parents, widows and families with children with disabilities, hoping to benefit those who need it the most while providing them with the training necessary to have a high-performing and gratifying job.

Marketplace

Starting a female security organization, I faced many societal barriers due to stereotypes of traditional female roles. This, however, only strengthened my resolve. My goal in starting the organization was economic independence for women through a job which shows the truth behind gender equality, as women remain just as capable as men to provide security and ensure safety. I faced obstacles with both client and women applicants. One was reluctant to see the innate capabilities of women security, the other reluctant to step out of traditional roles. Our response: a testing period and a pan-shirt uniform enforcing equality in dress.
