Wendy was convinced that getting the country’s best minds to commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools would positively affect the of the nation’s most under-served students while influencing the consciousness and priorities of these future leaders.
Problem
There are drastically lower life opportunities for students from low-income backgrounds.
These students also face extra challenges such as adequate health care, proper nutrition and appropriate housing.
They are disproportionally children of colour, thus more likely to encounter the effects of societal low expectations and discrimination.
There is insufficient talent, leadership and hours in the day for teachers to catch-up students who start out behind.
The prevailing ideology in the US has not led to the necessary policies and investments to eliminate educational inequality.
Solution
Growing in Scale: by recruitment of top college graduates.
Maximising Impact: As Alumni, these teachers bring strong leadership to every level of the school system and across all fields
Fostering Alumni leadership: to help change the prevailing ideology advocacy.
Building of a sustainable, effective and efficient institution
