TropicalClinics save lives and impact the communities we serve to self-sufficiency. Our mission is to rehabilitate children from extreme malnutrition and vaccine-preventable diseases; treat and nurture HIV/AIDS patients to become productive members of the community; prevent mothers and babies from dying in childbirth; and offer preventive screenings to over 180 people per day through state-of-art medical centers in rural regions of Kenya.
The rural areas of Kenya are plagued by an array of preventable and communicable causes of morbidity and mortality. Malaria, measles, pneumonia, undernutrition, and diarrheal diseases are major child killers. Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS are huge and growing challenges, especially within the adult population. We are helping create the next generation of healthy children. We are providing health care opportunities for disadvantaged women, children and their families to transform their lives to health and self reliance.
TropicalClinics has treated over 3,800 people at annual portable triage clinics at Kakamega over its initial five years of active operations. In phase II of our operations, we have rented and completed renovations of an existing 10,000 square feet space into a pharmacy & treatment center. In addition, we have collaborated with Doc to Dock Inc, and Project CURE, sourced and shipped a container of medical equipment and supplies to the clinic at Kakamega. We are moving into full operation of the medical center in a few months.

Problem

The impact of opening and fully operating the Tropicalclinics Medical Center as soon as possible: 1. Reduce extreme malnutrition in about 12 children per month 2. Rehabilitate 35 HIV/AIDS patients per month to become productive members of the community 3. Reduce infant and maternal deaths in about 38 pregnant women per month 4. In the next 6 months alone, we will save the lives of over 70 children; over 200 HIV/AIDS patients; and over 230 women. We will also provide preventive care to over 20,000 patients in the next 6 month alone.

Solution

We have set up a state-of-art medical center, fully equipped with modern medical equippment. Once stocked with medicine and essential nutrients, it will provide high quality and affordable access over 30,000 people in the Kakamega region in the next 6 months alone. Our model is unique in being high quality and affordable to many rural people who can afford to pay $5 in registration fees.

Example

A pregnant woman walks 15 miles to access antenatal care at our treatment center at Kakamega. She is screened for HIV/AIDS, Malaria, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes and assessed for her nutrition status. She is given antimalarial drugs; her blood pressure, blood glucose and nutrition for her and her baby are managed through careful nutrition counseling. She is advised to make several antenatal visits to help keep her and her fetus healthy. At the end of her pregancy, she gives birth to healthy weight baby. She is also healthy and can return to her productive work a few months after giving birth. Without TropicalClinics, she lacks access to antenatal care, she is likely to give birth assisted with an unskilled birth attendant and she is likely to die in child birth.

Marketplace

There are a few one (1) doctors clinics and a government hospital in the Kakamega region. They are poorly equipped and do not have skilled health care staff. We are their many competitors. Their former clients are likely to come to our medical center. This could present resentment issues. However, we are collaborating with local health care providers and encouraging those that are well trained to consider offering their services at our medical center.
