Can you provide an example of letter content, and who sender/recipient may be?

The personal letter will strengthen the workplace values of quality work, timeliness, honesty, and openess, to acknowledge ethics as an internal compass.

Quality businesses expect accuracy, attendance, and constant work from the employee. This letter will be a copy or affirmation of these values. This letter will be open to the worker's family, friends, and to the public, to maintain as gates with which he must carry himself respectfully to contribute to work or pay for reparations.

Tme schedules for pay back or reparations can be written in a separate letter. The payment schedule can be set up through the owner and a malefactor or thief. This can be established through the time frame and monetary constraints of the owners. If both parties agree to be handled by a nonprofit lawyer or arbritration.

P.S. Guess how I learned this? From a former boss whom I am currently involved in this process. SH

If I understand correctly, you are talking about a personal letter as a new form of contract between eg employer and employee where instead of small print legalese , you are encouraging the core exchanges to be clarified in big print: simple human terms , and ones that all sides are happy to be shown around their family, community, to other workers etc

Have I got the idea?

If I haven't : I will probably need to see an example even if you take out the names of the people involved or just show us part of it

------
en passant:
I wonder too if there is some simplicity (if higher level) analogy between what you are talking about and:
ashoka fellpw Karen Tse

the reason why chief Justices are now into the 7th annual round of meeting at the world's largest school to answer children's questions on why they the chief justices in many countries feel unempowered by what politicians or others will actually let them adjudicate http://www.cmseducation.org/article51/index.htm

I also like mediation where we go beyond the idea that a lawyer has to declare one side as wrong and one as right, because in a connected evolving world often both sides share a fault when something bursts; and often the third party, the law is also part of the problem because the world has changed beyond what it anticipated when its precision was wriiten in stone; some of the patents being written around human genome and diseases terrify me at least as much as the existence of nuclear bombs

Chrismacrae, it does not seem to me that this letter is intending to replace a formal legal contract between employer and employee. It sounds more like a letter of reaffirmation (it would reflect the personal
values/beliefs that the employee has acquired through his or her own life experiences). If I am not mistaken, this letter would be an attemp from the employer to motivate new workers to become more aware of their moral and ethical responsibilities as part of the society.

I think it would be a good tactic to raise ethical awareness among new employees. It would be an effective way of reminding them of the societal mores to which most of us are exposed throughout our lifespans. A problem with this letter writing proposal is that not all people have the same moral standards. There is a basic set of moral standards that is universal, but it is not necessarily consistant among all individuals. What is unethical for some may be ethical for others.

Scott, I found the third stage of your proposal to be somewhat controversial. Albeit it is a reasonable and well-founded idea, I do not think most employers would be willing to invest in the mental health of employees who have demonstrated to be dishonest. Why would employers want to retain thieves in the workplace when they could simply fire them and hire new people? From a humanitarian perspective, offering dishonest employees psychological help would be ideal. From a commercial (enterprise) perspective, it would be unnecessary and inconvenient.

Overall, good plan, but it needs some adjustments.
