Having worked in the gender and development sector for many years, I was excited about your entry, which demonstrated in a concrete and feasible manner how men can be drawn in to addressing Gender-based Violence. It's great that your program has been brought in at a secondary school level rather than only targeting adult men, as many of the harmful patriarchal stereotypes that men indirectly or directly support become consolidated during their earlier years. I would imagine that providing them with national networking opportunities, facilitated by your organization, deepens the sense of shared responsibility and action in tackling violence against women, as well as affords the young men the chance to learn and grow from one another.

I was wondering if MCSR currently uses video to document and disseminate your great work to other schools. If not, I think that it this is an option worth exploring. I noticed you mentioned growing demand and constraints on resources, including staff; this could be a way of highlighting crucial messages and innovative approaches to redefining masculinities, as well as promoting MCSR and possibly leveraging more interest, partnerships and funding. I wish MCSR continued success and growth.

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for all your supportive comments. We've just started using video after being inspired by the process of co-creating a nine minute film for our 10th anniversary celebration last April. If you go to YouTube and type in either Men Can Stop Rape or pmcgann737, you'll be able to view a number of short videos we recently created, and we hope you direct other people to them as well. We're going to keep on expanding our use of this technology, so keep visiting YouTube, or I can sign you up for our newsletter, where we'll let subscribers know each time we've posted a new one. Just send me your email address at pmcgann@mencanstoprape.org.
