Internet penetration is in India is very high, moreover now we don't have any platform that can be used as a student message board. I think campus blogging can do it well. I wish every success for campus blogging network.

Thu, 01/22/2009 - 03:13

It's true that internet penetration is on the rise in India.. But, Orkut or Facebook won't serve the purpose of bringing out talent I guess..

That's why a project such as the Campus Blogging Network would really be a change maker.. Cheers to the team.. :)

Thanks Jithin,

Blogging is more productive than browsing social networking sites. Our volunteers have found terrific excitement when their peers recognized their talents, which would have been gone un noticed otherwise.

This will also work as an online publishing media for the students' creativity.

Thu, 01/22/2009 - 05:50

As it's all run by the students themselves, there are getting a platform where they can express the various views and issues inside the campus. It will be a change maker for sure..All the very best ...

Yes Jinson, they are getting a chance to run an organization on their own. Professional training that we impart helps them to manage the server. the cms and other nuances associated with it. The management team is on a constant effort to improve coordination and to create solid processes so that we can scale seamlessly.

Thu, 01/22/2009 - 07:04

This is also a perfect supplement of e-learning online and it will help online collab in colleges to a great extent.

Thu, 01/22/2009 - 07:32

yes Anand, campus blogging enhances the knowledge sharing opportunities. Students and staff from different colleges can publish their notes and other course material on the blog. This is a never before opportunity.

Thu, 01/22/2009 - 11:24

I noticed that you said that the students handle everything...

I always figured that Content Management Systems such as Wordpress ( Which one do you guys use?? )were kinda difficult to manage.. Do they pull it off successfully?

First of all wordpress is not difficult. Even grand moms use wordpress to maintain blogs. Then we have regular training workshops for server management, wordpress management, wordpress themeing, plugin development etc so that students are comfortable using it.

We also have a peer to peer learning model where we assign a new volunteer to an existing volunteer. Its the responsibility of the old one to teach the new one. They do it via phone calls, IMs or over skype.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 02:56

wordpress is very simle...posting an article in the blog with wordpress is as simple as sending an email...

The training workshops help us to learn new things...also to network with students from different colleges

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 02:22

I hope this effort will bring in more people of the new generation come close to blogging and new media.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 04:15

Thanks Jocalling.
More than that, campus blogging will provide the students a never before opportunity to showcase their talent to the external world.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 02:36

How can one get permission frm the management nd also convince em to invest in the project?? plz tell..

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 02:42

We have prepared a presentation and a proposal which you can use to present this idea to your college/school management. Learn about the project from this and you can customize it also if needed. Show them the results from existing campus blogs. You can download the presentation and the proposal from the site www.campusblogs.org

The investment for starting a blog is negligible. You host with your existing provider (if any) or can host on our servers for Rs 1000 (~ 25$) a year.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 05:30

Campus blogging allows bloggers and students to explore themselves by pushing one across uncrossed boundaries.

the first time i ever created an entire wordpress theme was for our campus blog vosree. after doing the theme, i am getting professional offers for designs.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:42

"this is a great initiative"we are getting ippurtunity to learn new things and network with students from other colleges
really rocking idea
all the best

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 08:11

Are there any full timers working for this right now ? How do you manage to maintain all these blogs?

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 08:30

There are no full timers working now. But we have many volunteers working for us in their free time. We have assigned different jobs to different volunteers. Also we train new volunteers on a regular basis so that the existing volunteers are not over loaded.

If we had full timers we could have reached out to more institutions and evangelized them into starting blogs.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:15

So this is going to be a huge media network of educational content generated by the students and the faculty. What is the content license for this ?

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:38

Not just educational content, all sorts of content that students can create. This will include poems, articles, stories, drawings, podcasts, video casts and anything that you can image.

About the License, to be really frank I have never thought about it before. I prefer copy left. May be we can ask the user to set his preferred License for his posts. Anyways Ill think about it seriously.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:22

I have always felt the need for some forum to express my feelings. A forum where there are no boundaries. Even my friends felt the same thing. I think campus blogging network will help students express themselves with out any restrictions! All the best

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:44

I believe it's an amazing idea, which could be amazingly huge.

It's a great way for students to spread both talent and creativity.
It will also give a chance for new people which arrive on campus to have a good way to meet new people within their campus.

I'd love to have this on my campus!

My concern is will something like this have a patent or anything which can restrict other campuses or schools to do this aswell?

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:38

Yes, campus blogging is really interestng and allows all students to show their hidden abilities......

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:39

sounds cool..the students will get exposure to the new technologies by sharing knowledge and also can express the views and thoughts through this medium....All the very best !!!!!

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:42

good idea

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:43

Keep up the good work!!

The MAD blog was your idea and it has really brought all volunteers closer and helped us share information and ideas across cities!!

Sat, 01/24/2009 - 04:06

And for me its still exciting to see new posts on the MAD blog.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:44

"this is an interesting initiative,we are getting great oppurtunity to express ourself

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 13:44

My school has an in-house magazine to showcase the literary and creative skills of the students. It is generally run with the help of sponsors. Having an online magazine instead has a lot of potential.

One, it is not limited by the funds - Since there will be financial constraints on the number of books that can be published.

Two, it receives more exposure in the public - The magazines are circulated generally in the school and the sponsors. Hosting it on the net gives a lot of new viewers.

Three, having better coverage can attract more participation as well as better way of showcasing talent (wrt to CV building, something that can help the students for the future)

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 14:03

its proved in the case of vosree.com

we added two articles from our college magazine in vosree, our campus blog and it got great response..
one of the article named perillatha katha is getting good traffic from searchengines everyday...(both are articles in malayalam)

the authors are also verymuch excited to see this response and they are planning more articles...seeing the response to good articles in our blog..more students are coming forward with cool articles

Sat, 01/24/2009 - 04:04

www.vosree.com is the campus blog of Sree Buddha Engineering College and its a really wonderful blog. Credits goes to the blogging team there headed by Sujith.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 14:08

its very interesting.By this students gets a platform to express their thoughts & views..... Al the bst....

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 14:32

Blogging is actually a good idea that provides a means to express our ideas and thoughts on different issues and share it with others. It has a great role in the development of todays youth.

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 14:45

this is a nice initiative for students like me to learn new things and express myself

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 14:49

I think that Campus Blogging will bring a new trend among the teenagers in school/college sharing their ideas, skills or what ever they got - with their friends and people around the world. making Internet a good platform.. usable and secure, am sure it will also bring a new dimension for 'Internet' among the society removing all its bad 'karmas' :D

Fri, 01/23/2009 - 15:30

I would love to see students get busy in solving most pressing socio-economic challenges facing India. May be a changemakersindia.net by the students ;)

That is very true. Developing societies have many misconceptions about the internet and the mobile phones. To an extent the offline media plays a role in aggravating such misconceptions. To solve that people need to see the benefits of internet by themselves.

Sat, 01/24/2009 - 05:59
k s

This is a gud idea...students can post their poems, writings etc. thru college blogs...know the college updates (exam time table, college events etc.)....

Sat, 01/24/2009 - 06:44

well the campus blogging has created many opening stages for the campus.... now due this project the campus blogs has been considered as an high grade icon of the campus...

moreover the campus blogging offers many other helps too.. many students those who were idle in the campus are now been the most active ones..!! It also leads a great way for e-learning and even sharing the experiences of the students in the particular campuses..!!!

well if a student achieves something it can be notified in the newspapers or magazines only for a one or 2 days..!! well thats the another great feature of the campus blog..!! well if an achievement is notified the post will remain there till the administrator deletes it off..!! and moreover by the campus blogging many students have got the oppurtunity to get an exposure among the very competitive industry....!!

Many of the students have also said that they are very thankful to this project because many of them have improved their writing skills and as well as the english language......!! now the campuses where this project has been implemented , the students are capable of expressing their views in a very interesting and excellent way....!!

Well what i have written is from my personal experiences...!!!! ......

Mover over the BARCAMPS and BLOGCAMPS that are conducted under this network has also helped many students and others to learn many things and even has got many stage performance chances and also has achieved many things that they thought were impossible..!!

Moreover everything that is provided through these camps are extremely free of cost and those all coming are getting connected with the professionals thats are on the rails..!!

Sun, 01/25/2009 - 05:03

i think that this is the best platform to showcase our talent before the international audience. This platform gives maximum appreciation to all the ventures of the students. The camps being conducted provides lot more than we expect.Students get maximum exposure through them.they get to communicate with the masters which will help them to be on track.

Students can discuss and share ideas about eevrything under the Sun which is wonderfull and is equivalent to reading a lot of books and may be more than that.

The point which excites me more is that i can raise my voice against anything which seems to be unfair for me.As a young individual i really feel that this venture should be utilised to the maximum extent to fight against the cheap morality code set by our society.

A very big thanks to all who took effort to make this happen.

Sensible initiative, gives kids on campus some productive things to do on the internet rather than waste time, storage and contribute to the global carbon footprint of data centers by spending time on Orkut and Facebook.

Sun, 01/25/2009 - 09:17

simple coz, this is awesome.

The greatest thing is that this takes forward the motto of "Web into masses" which I embrace much.
Also, this proves the web is not more to be considered as a mere hobby, rather, a the way life is to be lived.

CampusBlogs supports and nourishes the students in colleges and schools for their development in the areas they excel rather than follow a single-faced syllabus-driven school/college life.

They get to know the world. The world gets to know them.
That's the essence.

Sun, 01/25/2009 - 09:49

Hello Aravind,
Web is a way of life and kids come up with different ways to live it. Its really wonderful to see how creative they are and how they grow on a seed idea you give them. One lesson I have learned from this exercise is that we should let them be free about their thoughts and ideas.

Sun, 01/25/2009 - 09:37

the campus blogging idea is very much rocking.... if i say from ma personal experience, ma brother got in touch with this network and he has got many exposure to express himself and has also learned many things... he has also started a blog for our school which our school management and students were extremely excited....

How often you find the blogs updated? Although many blogs have a head start, they lag behind the time due to the fact that they are not updated frequently. How do you tackle this problem?
