Hi Chris
Thanks for such an exciting entry. Can you tell us how perhaps environmental themes come into your work with young people. I think such a programme would be well suited to also get young people to care about their environment.

I would also be interested to hear what the M/f ratio is and how you attract underserved young women. I run a boxing and running project just for girls see "boxgirls roadworks" and I know it is hard to get enough girls to take part in city programmes and would like to hear about your experiences.

All the best from Berlin.

Hi Heather-

Environmental Stewardship is a huge area of focus for our organization and one of the places we have seen some really special impacts with the youth we serve. We partner with environmental and advocacy organizations like the Sierra Club and Surfrider to introduce environmental education components to our programming. We also work at creating community service projects for the kids like beach clean ups and trail work.

Our program demographics are 60% male 40% female. We sometimes have initial challenges in engaging young women, but usually once they begin participation they are hooked. One method we have used successfully to initially engage youth is using the participants from our leadership program in the initial engagement process. This is a program where we train youth who have been through the program to become instructors and peer mentors. Alot of our staffing is know done with the youth who have been through the program.

Thanks for all the great work you are doing in Berlin!
