Louis,
I was really inspired by your entry. It is something that has never occurred to me, but which I realize is a very real issue for your target audience. I hope you will fill out the rest of your entry, because I think you have a very unique proposal and I know that there are probably many - myself included - that have a lot to learn from you. I am curious also as to whether you see this as a program only for transexual/transgender/intersex individuals or whether mixed classes might not offer an opportunity for even greater power as inclusion and support is embodied in creating a broader which could have an impact beyond just providing a safe space, but also perhaps generating awareness and breaking down stereotypes.
Best of luck,
Ziba

Hi Louis,

it´s really great you found your way here. Welcome to changemakers! I think this is the only project so far that actively deals with queerness and sport, and I´m very sure it´s the only one that addresses safe spaces for transgenders. I know that there is a huge demand for transpeople to find good ways to practice their chosen sports and stay in touch with their bodies. At the same time, professional sports are pretty rigidly organized around gender lines and stereotypes, and at an amateur level it´s hard to find suitable training facilities and a friendly environment. By all means, tell us more about this! I´d love to see your project page expand a little. Also, can you comment a little on the general situation for tgs in sports as you see it? Let´s make this a topic here.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for LGBT rights, it’s just that I think their line of thinking is a slippery slope similar to those who have impulsive urges to modify their bodies, and consequently end up ruining them. I’m all for gender reassignment operations if the person genuinely feels that he would feel more in harmony with himself if he had a sex change, but the issue is of whether he will feel that way in a few years, or even a few months. When people get tattoos and piercings, sometimes they regret them when they’re older because they no longer have the same mindset that they did, or are simply sick of it. Unless it’s a necessary operation (implants for breast cancer surgery, etc..), we already have seen many cases where elective surgeries lead to an addiction. I’m just afraid that LGBT people might be going down this same path by being so eager to undergo an operation. All I’m asking is that they try to do everything in their power to be comfortable and accepting of the way they were made before they decide to go get work done.
