What is the primary problem your venture is trying to address and how are you addressing it (or planning to address it)?
The old people’s home “Nuestra Señora del Carmen”, in the town of San Nicolás, has a high number of residents with limited financial resources as well as a limited number of staff dedicated to their basic needs. Consequently the elderly residents are unable to exercise their human right to meet and communicate with their peers through any type of entertainment or ongoing educational activity.

To achieve the integration and communication of the elderly residents through the creation of the cinema-theatre, using educational activities as tools for integration.
Unique and different
No one in the area is dedicated to looking after the elderly; they don’t get enough visits from family and friends. No one spends money on buying a TV, DVD’s, games or other materials for their entertainment. Furthermore, there is no personalized attention for the residents.
Project plan
1 – Acquisition of TV, DVD’s, furniture, games, confectionery (amongst other things)
2 – Familiarization with the institution’s staff and with the elderly residents.
3 – Attain the involvement of the community to work with the old people’s home.
4 – Broadcast, through the media, the work carried out by the GEAN organization
5 – Presentation by the elderly residents of the opinions and benefits obtained over the course of the project
Partnerships
- Students in their 3rd polymodal year (in 2008) from the San José school who introduced us to the home and who offered us an insight into the institution.
- - Support of the San José School in the realization of the project. Support and consent of the families
- Our teacher in charge of the curriculum program Social Networks, Mrs Patricia Murua
- The staff of the home whom we have met on our visits there
- The media, newspapers, radio and tv
- Sale of items for the San Nicolás old people’s home.

We hope for a positive impact which generates gratitude, happiness, and such interest that stimulates originality and the ability to elicit new emotions despite their age
Effectiveness
We will benefit 50 residents, the staff and religious brothers of the establishment, the families of the residents, the community and the GEAN organization.

Obstacles
• Creemos que la falta de recursos para obtener los medios nos complicara la realización de una práctica exitosa.
• Personalidades cerradas y frías, que deberán ser tratadas en conjunto con el personal psicológico.
• Falta de ganas, por parte de los ancianos, para realizar las actividades planeadas.

The Story
Motivation
Ever since the first institutional visit to the establishment of “Hogar del Carmen” by the institutional body Social Problems, we were very pleased that the elderly residents together with the religious brothers in charge of the establishment invited us to return in order to spend more time together with them.
But we have arrived at the conclusion that they are in need of a entertainment space. It is for this reason that we chose this establishment to carry out this project.
Awards
We have only recently started this project and therefore have not received any prizes yet. We hope to be able to win some.
