What is the primary problem your venture is trying to address and how are you addressing it (or planning to address it)?
THer are a lot of ollegal dumping places around Alexandra and this is environmental problem and it cause a health hazard. so we decided to embark on a project to clean up those spaces and develop a garden and we realised that people have tried to do this before but there was no consistency and in order to sol;ve that we came up with the vegetable garden, tree planting, arist's art expo and a place to improve young people's skills idea and this expos will happen every month.

Describe Your Idea
vegetable garden, tree planting, artist's art expo and young people's skills development garden.
Innovation
Project Description
vegetable garden, tree planting, artist's art expo and young people's skills development garden.
Unique and different
our project is unique 'cause it not only deals with the environmental issue but also ensues consistency of our garden and our gardens will be designed in such a way that it can also operate as an art expo centre, that our local artists can come and showcase their hand made products and their skills in music and poetry without paying at all. lastly some of our organic vegetables will be donated to old age homes, orphanage homes and places where HIV positive people are cared for.
Project plan
secure enough funds to purchase all the equipment we need for our garden and for office work. we also need to get a space to store our equipment. create lasting relationships with relevant Departments in South Africa that also deal with what we are working with.
Partnerships
we have have partnered with schools and churches 'cause most of the people we are working with are in those places. we also have connections with our local counsel and community centre where we will advertise most of the events we'll organise.
Impact
Impact
we will create a clean and better Alexandra and it is said that some of the criminal activities are performed in this open and neglected spaces, this is also a solution to the greening problem as we'll plant trees. some of our organic vegetables will be donated to old age homes, orphanage homes and places where HIV positive people are cared for.
Effectiveness
the youth, elderly, old people and physically challenged will benefit from this.
How do you engage and impact the community?
we work close with our community as this is not our project but theirs as well, we offer young people who are interested in getting skills in gardening and we also give artists the platform to showcase the skills of their hand work and skills in music, drama and poetry. and if a person can not fit in any of the above they can come and be spectator on our monthly events and in that way they'll be taken off the streets and will be saved from accidents.
How do you measure this impact?
we have monnthly evaluations forms that will be filled by community members and our advisers, who will also assess those forms to find-out if we are stills living up to our vision and this will be so helpful 'cause the community will not lie.
Obstacles
the key obstacle is to get the local authorities to officially give us a land to carry out all this activities. enough space to store our equipment and we also need more equipment.
This Entry is about (Issues)
Sustainability
Financing source
(or how do you expect your initiative will be financed)
we are in the process of creating strong relationships with the department of environment and conservation, arts and culture, water and forestry and the Alex Renewal Project who will also be our source of funding and they will also refer us to other funders.
Aside from financial sustainability, how do you plan to grow and sustain your project?
our long term goal is to have a big enough land to plant more organic vegetables and sell them to flee markets and we wil plant many trees and sell them to other companies for plantation.
Finance details
at the present moment we are only working in one piece of land and there equipment needed is that much some we go into our pockets and buy some of the things we sometimes need to keep going. so finacially we have nothing in our bank account and donations we sometimes get are seeds and fertilizers from local supermakets.
Creative funding
taking our organic vegetables and show them to business people around our community and ask them to invest in this project and this works cause they can see the results at hand. writing funding proposals to departments and companies we know offer funding. ask donations from our relatives.
Other non finance needs
more land, donated garden equipments, seeds and old office equipment.
The Story
Motivation
open spaces that end being danger zones and young people who are skills in different areas and are not taken care of but neglected. our community is not that bad, but the fact that a lot off people do not care for the little we have shows that even if we get house in Alex still it'll be dirty, so it is better that we promotecleaniliness now than saying it'll be clean when there are houses. the spread of deseases like TB gain more power if the environment is not clean than when it is clean.
Awards
during school days was elected best achieving student by the local counsil. accredited as a social entreprenuer by ashoka South Africa.
Broader context
the youth have a platform to have their skills developed in caring for the environment, have a place to showcase the hand made products and talents (music, drama and poetry) at no cost at all. all people will be saved from diseases that come as a result of a dirty environment.
Ongoing
i'm 100% positive that it'll continue successfully 'cause we have strategies and was to make sure that we maintain consistency by artist' sart expo, which will grow from time to time and with the relationship we have with the community and local authorities we have enough support to keep us going forever.
