travelling is meant to open your horizon. To go and visit places is not as important as to discover the culture behind that country. In many places traveler are seen as intruders, spoiling the environment and not bringing any benefit to the locals.
AIAER, an education organization in India promotes conferences in education where members and non members can take part in events for sustainable education and stay with families. Taliking to people whether in India or any other country visitng places of worship, monuments, art sites, natural sites or going on the beach, travelling by train whether on your own or along with friends opens your mind. There are local projects in Cambodia and/or other places that need constant support in order to be sustainable. The network that needs to be set up among various people who advocate for sustainable development would look at a tourism concept where people learn and experience a different culture, can contribute either manually or academically to a project, indirectly financially and most important give a contribution in doing away with cultural barriers and conflicts created by prejudices.
Impact
What is the likely impact of your idea?
that we possibly have more interaction between south and north and east and west, that people who normally would not travel, would feel more confortable in a family environment. There would be enough colleges or universities willing to work on this and more students doing a culturalexchange. There would be less prejudices and stereotypes and the economical impact on rural project would be visible through collaboration between locals and outsiders which would beneficiate both.
What would it take to launch or spread your idea?
it would take the endorsement of international organizations, the collaboration of airlines to fund airline tickets for sustainable projects, the collaboration of several institutes and local NGO's. Most of the initiated work which has been self funded would see results if people were given the opportunity of working on sustainableprojects, if bureaucracy was cut down to aminimum and if we did away with expatraites exorbitant costs.

Describe yourself as a social innovator.
I don't do good. I try and get involved. I choose small venues as a restaurant or hotel,family businesses, I visit educational projects and see if I can link with them. From the AIAER we have the option to claim back costs for accomodation. I usually forfait them to a local project. I travel by train when possible and buy from small stands/ vendors, which torusists usually ignore. But that is not enough.
