Hi Karla-

I have to say this is a really great idea. It is so simple and it seems like the impact would be huge. Have you given any thought to how you would go about making this happen? Even though it is just an idea, it is a great one, and I encourage you to look into it more! If you do have plans to make it happen, please let us know!

Thanks!

This seems like a great idea with little effort to enact on the drug packaging side. Seems like it should have a lot of buy-in. Good luck!

Karla,

This is an excellent idea and a prime example of a low-cost and high-impact nudge that encourages people to change their behavior to improve their health!

It would be excellent if you could add more detail to your entry form. This could be the kind of initiative that Johnson & Johnson or Susan G. Gomen for the Cure http://ww5.komen.org/ could easily implement with large scale results. Please tell us more about your ideas about how this innovation could be implemented.

Thanks so much, and we look forward to learning more,

Amelia Forrest Kaye

I've recently expanded this entry; if you have other ideas on how to refine or expand this nudge, I'd welcome your comments or suggestions!

A fabulous/simple/easy to implement idea.

My question is: what evidence is there that self examination makes any difference in outcome for breast cancer?  My understanding is that the increase in survival time in breast cancers that are found by systematic self exam can be fully explained by the decreased time to diagnosis.  In other words women don't live longer overall when they find a breast cancer via self exam, they just know that they have a cancer for a longer period.  Once a lump can be felt it has already metastisized.

All the best, The Changemakers Team

“This is an elegant idea. It is a simple but potentially effective model using an existing calendar function. The innovation is untested, as you note, but the innovation is well adapted for seed money grant. However, can you explain the literature about BSE?”

“Can you provide more about your proposal in terms of plans for implementation? Getting buy-in from a pharmaceutical company could be tricky, but you could try selling templates that overlay the packaging? Also, because there are lots of birth control pills and even more generics, would there be a partnership you could form with an existing organization that could assist in this nudge? Even so, the simple reminder is a great nudging idea and empowers a single individual to take control of their personal health.”
