This is actually one of my favorite community development initiatives in Indonesia. I've know this community for some years, and I can readily testify how much the community and the children benefit from this venture; and how far they've come from a laid-back bordering on apathy community into a full-force community, loving the growth and new challenges. The children and the community now have a higher sense of purpose, and because of Ciek Farha's dilligent networking efforts, they also have become aware of their place in bigger community. They are now nurturing an extensive network and through it all, also cultivating empathy from people all over the world.
From such a small place in Ledokombo Jember, to reach out to the world in hope and humanity, is a great example for other remote villages.

Tanoker's initiative is unique, creative and inspiring for us who's working on children education in Indonesia. Their approach in using traditional games revitalization combine with good networking with various parties and involvement of hard worker volunteers resulted to extra ordinary impact to the so called "social orphans". I have been following their achievements through facebook, email and media. I testified that I've been learning a lot from this community. I hope they'd continue their great works. Many thanks to Farha, Supo and the Tanoker's children.

This is my very spontaneous comment: I am really impressed with Tanoker. This is truly a social movement from below... A very important initiative when we see the real condition of 'education' in Indonesia when it seems 'humanity' is gone --when schools often become a medium of violence and abuse... Tanoker does not only teach children with 'humanity,' but 'practice' and experience it.... They do what people like me can only think and talk about that "if we cannot change the ongoing situation, we can invest for the future..." I wish Tanoker, mbak Ciciek and the kids.... all the best!

Tanoker means cocoon. And this is what I encountered there last year during a research trip: a place where children and young people find a protected and conducive environment to develop their minds and hearts. Tanoker reminds us all of a vital lesson that in the windfall of globalisation often gets forgotten. Mutual respect, acknowledgement and caring are resources that generate an invaluable profit: children's believe in themselves - in their capacity to learn, to develop and to make a change in the world, to believe that they make a difference. Be it in the world of their community, the country they live in or the globe. Tanoker connects the children and the community of a forgotten landscape with the world and puts them back onto the map of the global community. In this sense Tanoker creates a new meaning for the phrase "global player". This to my mind, is a meaning to be embraced. Thank you for sharing with me, Tanoker-kids and adults. Keep on rockin'!

Our future depends on what we are doing, I remember Gandhi said it, and I have been convinced by it, by looking at what I see at Tanoker Ledokombo. I find Tanoker Ledokombo is not only a place but also a pool of conducive energy where learning is facilitated for everybody - children, young, and adults, whether they live in Ledokombo's society or those who are come from outside, as volunteers as well as friends of Tanoker Ledokombo.

As part of the country's dynamic, and yet, challenging social setting, putting energy in this Tanoker Ledokombo's learning hub drives collaborative investments for the future - the future that is developed and generated not only by the facilitators/organizers of the movement but also by the children, the leaders of the future. This learning hub bridges and facilitates opportunities for building future leaders who are optimistic, patriotic, and with strong self confidence and dignity.

Tanoker Ledokombo is a fast moving and rolling snow ball, where inspirations and examples of practices become teachers who do more than what other teachers could do in thousands of words. This is a practical example of how a society becomes part of the future they want to craft. Go, go, and grow Tanoker!

Tanoker is small community in the small village but it gives loves, care and passion to everyone.
As student teacher, Tanoker gives me space to deliver what i've studied in University and Tanoker also gives me what The University couldn't give to me. The thing that impressed me is Tanoker teach me how to make a good character which is useful for better nation. This movement is not only for individual or surrounding society but also for the nation.

In Tanoker, i learn how the others live with their own way. But, they head to the same goal, that is change to be better, to be positive, to be useful. We learn each others. That is called Tutor. Tutor for new life.
The Kids, Teenagers and Adult learn together.
being part of Tanoker is valuable. I love this Community. Really loves it. We dare to change to be Better

Keep Going for Tanoker. Fighting!!

I do really got new life when I came to Tanoker and met lots of children. I never imagine how were their life before. I thought they grow full in love, care and life happily with their parents. But, it's not at all. They have to spend their time by themselves without having good feedback. Because of no care a lot from parents. Their parents have to work hard anywhere and of course not in their side anymore. The Amazing idea from Mr. Suporaharjo and Mrs. Farha ciciek to take care more for them in Tanoker. Then, they grow in happiness, honesty, religious, and of course they try to ignore their stubborn while making friends in Tanoker. In addition, Their academic progress get better in various skill and be a nice personality. What an amazing Tanoker! They are my inspiration. I know, from their little hands can move direction to the great one.
