SOCA (Soeka Membaca)

Indonesia was ranked the 108th of 185 countries in Human Development Index. This shows the poor quality of life of Indonesian people such as bad economy,bad health,etc. These conditions happen because they don’t have enough knowledge therefore they don’t know what have to do with the existing condition. So they just like ‘surrender’ with their life. One of crucial things that cause this one is education,especially in remote village. Some education problems happen is low interest in reading, lack human resource and facilities such as building,books,library, etc. All education problems in Indonesia is firstly come because low interest in reading not only students but also almost all people in Indonesia, whereas reading is a key point in learning process.We try to solve the education problem.

Main problem we are going to solve is education, specifically low interest in reading. Book is one of media to support this.We decide to solve this problem by increasing interest in reading a book because we believe that reading is an activity that can open our eyes to the universe and book is accessible for all people.If all people in Indonesia like reading,they can be knowledgeable and they know how to overcome the problem happens in their life.We implement it by building a library whether in village or elementary school.All people in Indonesia have a right to be educated.Two main targets we choose,village and elementary school because people who live in remote village are left behind without latest information or knowledge. And we choose elementary school because it is a first formal education where children must enter.So we try to instill interest in reading early together with improving adult’s quality.If these two conditions are going success continuously, then quality of life of Indonesian people will be better over time.

The solution is focused in remote village, because that place needs to be aided sooner than other. We try to educate people there, give book donation to build a library whether school library or village library, and do one-week dedication there. We’ll stay there in a week, teach student not to be upset with the condition, teach them how to dream, how to reach their dream, and exactly we insist in increasing their interest in reading by many kinds of activity. Beside interact with student, we also interact with teacher and people who live there by providing some programs for them. All programs we make are to help education of Indonesian people who live in remote village as a provision for their survival and to face their future better. Our program is not just one-week dedication, but there also follow up periodically to add a number of books and to ensure that our program brings a good influence for their life.
