Vijay,
This is a very creative and effective idea, great work! It is a bit personal to me, my grandfather grew up in Haryana and it was always 'understood' that Government hospital service required a bribe...or a mile-long line.

What are your plans to sustain the funding required for the effort? Also, I would like to know a little more about any ideas you have to measure your impact.

Thanks Mr.Ravi Saxena for your comments and apologize for the delay in response! we have been running around between this contest and the field work. The plans to sustain the funding required are membership drives, increasing the individual donor base, reaching out to foundations and funding organizations to support our field work. Few people have also recommended 5th Pillar to function as a consulting firm and charge a reasonable fee to provide services to corporates and mid-sized businesses to process all government related work without having to pay bribes. That way, the companies save on their 'bribe-budget', the society benefits out of reduced corruption, flouting of laws etc. and 5th Pillar benefits by growing a support base through those companies work force. Please let us know if you have any ideas or inputs in this direction. Thanks.

Vijay.

Thanks Ashok. We are all in this together, and each of us have a role in it. 5th Pillar is a platform or vehicle, if you will. Let us ride it together and help our society to rid off/ reduce corruption and bribery.

Hello Mr.James Pinto-

We do have quite a bit of documentations to share on our field work, especially copies of RTI petitions and the corresponding replies from government departments. Few cases of success stories are already posted on www.5thpillar.org. We have a newsletter titled 'CHANGE' that was beta tested for a few issues and we are now ready to make it regular in the coming months.

Few countries across the world, have adopted the Zero currency concept- Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Ghana, and Nepal in Asia. We would be more than happy to provide a starter design for anyone who might be interested to start off in their countries. Many countries currencies are in Zero format on our other website- www.zerocurrency.org.

This is a fantastic idea and definitely necessary. Many companies now have offices in India, or rely heavily on Indian vendors to provide critical services, so this issue is definitely international. I think you should create your own channel on YouTube where you can host video evidence of corruption like the one you described above. You can then use Twitter and Facebook to push traffic towards the channel so that people can see for themselves that corruption exists and is a real issue.

Hello Mr.Kariyushi Casper,
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. Yes, many international companies have set up offices in India in the last decade and the number is increasing. This was something that was unheard of in the earlier decades and if only corruption and poor governance can be dealt with systematically, it will invite more such companies thereby rising the investments, job opportunities and of course fueling the economy.

We do have a youtube channel, and a facebook page-http://www.facebook.com/pages/5th-Pillar/150539874971161

looking forward to work together..

I know Vijayanand personally from his college days, always self-serving. After his college he worked with his brother selling phones and other electronic items, he bribed many to sell telecom products. He then used his parent’s goodwill to start a chit fund, used that money to start a garment export business and used car trading. Business did not take off and literally escaped from his hometown with help of his classmates. He then scammed other fellow Indians getting them H1B for a fee through his contacts; in some cases he skimmed money from helpless H1B’s. He never worked for his pay check; he always was riding on someone’s work. He used his workdays to scam politicians and movie artists. If you want to know more about him ask his classmates and folks in Virginia (avoid his relatives and community folks). Please don’t think he is there in India to stop corruption, he is there to make money.

Dear friend,
I saw your comment, with a 2 day old profile with Null information. If there is a strength truth behind the information you provide, please come up with a Full informative profile ( with your mobile number and email address to interact), so that people can get clarified as you know much about him. Just posting an anonymous comment like this may create a bad impression on you and your comment may be ignored, as how normally anonymous comments are ignored when shouted with a mask in crowd against big leaders. Come forward for a discussion and be open to protect the truth

We have enough crooks in our society; just want to caution people of adding one more to that pile. It’s a readers prerogative to accept or ignore, obviously you did not ignore. There should be a reason why the system allows anonyms people to blow the whistle.

What I stated are facts to assist readers decision, readers can corroborate if they like to do so.

Hello Cruiser...dare to give out the facts here?Just posting negative comments doesn't help

Just because Jaya won the election makes her noble? Rahul rallying anti-corruption makes him clean?
Knowingly or unknowingly we are a mob. Our mob mindset work based on what peers say, popular trends and so on. We support or vote based on what hear from media or peers, or we support the better of evils. We hardly know the motive of the elected person who will run a state or an organization.

Anti-corruption is the latest theme and he picked it for better prospects. Strengthen your back he will ride on it as long as you let him, and then he will get another mob. He has mastered "riding on the mob" technique.

Just to state some of his interactions with TN police, ask him if he was
1) Caught with a prostitute in Coimbatore (B2 police station)
2) Caught running over a police and dragging him few yards
3) Caught causing accidents in Coimbatore and Salem
Ask him how much he bribed in each case to get out of those incidents without a case. You do your homework before wasting your time. Even better publish it so that no one else would waste their time.

Anti-corruption and transparency starts at home, last time I checked 5thpillar.org, I did not see any accounts statements. Ask him if he files income tax, owns any vehicle or home. Check if they are valued and taxed as per market value. Goodluck!

Your first comment gave an understanding, that you want to convey something to society .But your consecutive comments shows lack of maturity in public forum.
Please keep personal things personal, If you could say these events it explicitly shows you should also be with him by that time.
Also to add, making an accident, running over police and getting accusing for prostitution (FYI: Mahatma Gandhi who got independence for India wrote his experience with a prostitute in his autobiography, it doesnt disqualify him from being called as "Father of Nation") before a decade are not disqualification for Fighting a social cause.
Instead of identifying faults and talking useless things, he makes something useful to society.
I seriously say, keep your personal things Personal. This is not the right place for you’re to play around. Everyone comes here is a "Change maker" allow them to contribute peacefully.

You asked for the facts, I gave the facts. Everyone makes mistakes, but focus on how he resolved the issues. He BRIBED to get out of issues. And now claims to work against corruption? He was an agent for MP’s to sell their phone and gas quota’s.

If you think he was clean in Virginia that is wrong too. Did he pay the taxes on the commissions that he got from the H1B’s? Some of the commissions were paid in cahs directly to his brother in Coimbatore. Check all his activities while he lived in US, you will know more about him.

It is easy to talk the talk, hard to walk the walk. If every Indian get an opportunity to leave the family behind in US in luxury and skim money on H1B’s then they may be clean too.
To work against corruption he need not run for an office. Doesn’t that contradict to his NGO goals? So he has some other agenda? I don’t care if he is a politician, but just don’t want him to con people who support NGO’s working for good cause. Be aware, he is just another opportunist, no different from MGR, Ramadoss or Vijayakanth who all initially ran for office to voice a good cause.

Tue, 11/29/2011 - 08:53

I already told you, two times in the last reply , if you want to convey anything to me you can send email. All what you mentioned whether it is true or false, doesn't disqualify a person from working for good cause
Stop this here. Mentioned cheap reasons to accuse another human being is not a matured approach. Readers may not like this behavior and am not sure how many spammed you. You are coming as a anonymous person there you lost your credibility. reading through lines shows very childish and indecent behavior. Please maintain public forum discipline. If you still have faith in your truth and little interest to society ( without selfishness). Submit all documents related to your accusation about the person, send your identity and contact information.Let us investigate and bring out the truth in the same website requesting webmaster of this website .Anonymous, fearful, hidden, barking is of no use.

Vijayanand is a crook. He exploited the salaried sector in coimbatore in chitfunds, selling used cars and other finances, he couldn’t survive, he fled to America, now he is exploiting the Indian American centiments who want to better their homeland. He will continue anti-corruption theme till he recieves donations to support his living and keeps him in limelite to get elected for a political position. He contesting for political post already shows his intention, all politicians started with an anti-ruling party slogan. We have seen enough crooks and liars win, not the cause. As a socity, we regonizing him is knowingly entertaining a corroupt, we should do our homework before supporting anyone who rallys for a cause. We are where we are because we let it go at its inception.

We have given a pass to politicians, let us wake up and hold NGO’s to high morale, do not give them a pass.
Check their lifestyle against their income
Check if they follow the law of the land, property valuation, tax payments, etc
Check their non NGO activites
Check their inner circle’s activities
Ask for full disclosure

AshokRajan, I wish I can see documents that reveals how Kalingar and his family made a fortunte in 50 yrs, while my parents barely was able educate me. If you want documents ask vijayanand for 5thpillar accounts, his tax returns, both in India and US. Some are born crooks, they cover their intentions with noble cause to scam public, like what Vijayanand is doing now. Instead of shutting me, you should verify with him. Re-evaluate your support based on his response.

Recently, I learnt that 5th Pillar has been awarded a Special Consultative Status as an NGO fighting corruption, by the 'United Nations' Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC). Way to go 5th Pillar!!
