The picture on the Far upper left is the International Team with the 20 or so new ALSO Instructors when the course was first given in August 2006.
On the upper right we find the Director of the CASA Midwifery School and their clinical director working with Health Ministry officials in a hands on" workshop.
We found that the course not only teaches skills, but also transforms the environment which all of the varied health workers function in. The barries between midwives and leading obstetricians has been greatly reduced. In addition, emergency medicine physicians are seen as a critical link in the obstetrical team.
The multidisciplinary Guanajuato team is eager to develop simlar teams in high risk obsterical areas in Mexico.
With ARHP and with funding from the MacArthur Foundation we are crowdsourcing a map of obstetric facilities in Chiapas (and possibly Oaxaca too). Please contact us!
