As with many other syndromes and diseases, th lack of education and awareness can lead to disruptions in patient healthcare and contribute to the rising costs of healthcare. The follwoing is a comparitive study done on the costs of PCOS related symptoms vs. costs of initial diagnosis.

PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome - the most common endocrine-related condition of reproductive-aged women, affects nearly 4 million women in the u.s. and costs $4.36 Billion Annually, according to a report released by The Endocrine Society.

Costs from PCOS Associated diabetes = $1.77 Billion
Costs from treatment of mesntrual dysfunction/abnormal uterine bleeding associated with PCOS = $1.35 Billio
Costs from hirsutism (excessive hair growth) a side effect of PCOS = $622 million
Costs for providing infertility care to PCOS Patients = $522 million

These costs are compared to the costs of the initial evaluation of PCOS, which are estimated at $93 million
