L-O-V-E, Giving Dreams an Opportunity

I want each individual in the World to consciously lift themselves out of the economy that exists in front of them today, and decide if you had to contribute $1 every month toward helping others pursue their passions; would you give your $1 to your government who will put it towards a "one size fits all" education(knowing students have different interest) or would you contribute that $1 towards an organization designed to pair students with leaders/teachers who could not only teach them lessons, but also INVOLVE them in their passions, so they may better "understand" their talents and abilities?
The foundation needed to create an "understanding" of how to live a life that is comfortable to your liking doesn't exists in our educational system today, but that foundation is inside L-O-V-E.

L-O-V-E, Giving Dreams an Opportunity

What change do you want to bring to the world?

What are the primary activities of your project?

L-O-V-E has two primary activities; First, building capital to fund the “involvement” of individuals in their passions (discussed in more detail below), and second, the actual involvement of individuals in their passions or dreams. In order for L-O-V-E to be able to involve people in their passions, dreams, or desired careers, L-O-V-E must have the funding to purchase tools or lessons to help these individuals develop and reach their goal. We do this through a simple but innovative Act of Giving. Our second activity is involving these individuals. When an individual comes to L-O-V-E and is seeking to pursue a career or goal, we sit with this student and create a plan of pursuit. We identify inspirations, create goals, determine achievable mile stones, identify the tools for development, and identify and replace negative patterns of thought. When funding is required L-O-V-E uses its innovative Act of Giving to fund these individuals involvement. We create relationships with businesses and organizations to help these students begin networking and learning from leaders in common fields. We provide these two activities to eliminate the procrastinations that keep us from breaking through the invisible ceiling of mediocrity.

What is innovative about your initiative? How is it a new contribution to the field?

The great leaders of yesterday and today have provided loads of information for understanding the fundamentals of success. Their information is readily available but still many students continue to fail. Why, because they’re not being taught the fundamentals of success and their conscience is comfortable floating within the inertia of public opinion. We cannot progress as a whole until we begin to “think” successfully alike. L-O-V-E’s innovative Act of Giving starts this process. What does a world look like when “everybody” in it contributes toward a common goal? They achieve that goal. Why, because when everyone decides to think successfully then we all move in the same direction. L-O-V-E has chosen a successful direction we can all believe in. Our goal is to INVOLVE individuals in their passions and we do that by asking everyone to contribute $1 every month. With everyone (in the US alone) contributing $1 a month we can provide over 300 million dollars a "month" in capital to students. That is over 4 BILLION dollars a year. L-O-V-E does not profit from these contributions. L-O-V-E profits from the businesses and organizations seeking to assist the individuals coming through the L-O-V-E system (profits primarily through marketing). Our innovation exists today because Earth has progressed enough that we can communicate with all corners of the world and tap into the power of everyone believing and contributing toward each others success. We are taking social innovation and reforming pubic education into personal education.

What stage is your project in?

Operating for less than a year

Tell us about the community that you engage? eg. economic conditions, political structures, norms and values, demographic trends, history, and experience with engagement efforts.

L-O-V-E (LEADERSHIP-OPPORTUNITY-VIRTUE-EQUALITY). Anyone seeking to pursue a dream or goal would be in the community we are engaging, but we believe the biggest impact will be seen in the under developed communities; the communities having difficulty finding solutions to achieve goals because they cannot seem to get by the idea of how to afford it. We will see these communities coming forward for the smaller dreams; the ones many of us take for granted such as playing sports, learning to play an instrument, or simply finishing high school or getting into college. Young adults in these communities will be looking for that second chance to follow an inspiration. We will see the impact most here because it doesn’t take much to bring these individuals up to par. We will get them “thinking” about what they wish to do with their lives and then we are going to involve them in those activities. Most individuals, including the middle and upper classes, often give themselves the excuse of not having enough money, but with L-O-V-E you cannot give yourself that excuse anymore. Anyone can come to our doors to pursue any dream, big or small. Understanding how to recognize and create a path to goals is our salvation and L-O-V-E was created to help us create that path. The masses can afford to make this small contribution and L-O-V-E is ready to lead the way.

Share the story of the founder and what inspired the founder to start this project

My name is Braxton and I am the founder of L-O-V-E, LLC. I was born in Mississippi, raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and I came back to Mississippi for high school and college. While growing up my greatest inspiration was becoming a professional golfer. I loved playing golf and spent most of my spare time playing the sport, but my parents were only interested in me making good grades and finding what they considered a realistic career. Looking back now its clear seeing how so many of us cannot decide what we want to do with our lives. Most students are spending twelve years trying to make a “pretty” grade for parents and teachers, forgetting or never realizing that the first question should be “What do I want?” Our educational system puts us through a program that says make good grades and you will get to college. In college you can make more good grades and you can choose a career that satisfies your liking. Our problem is, only a few making it to college ever follow their true passions. Most end up in careers they never expected to be in. They’re unhappy and often end up jumping through multiple careers ending with the same result; unhappy. The ones failing before they ever get started in middle and high school, fail because they don’t believe in their curriculum. They don’t understand why they have to study those materials. My inspiration for starting L-O-V-E came when I realized that involving people in their “passions” would develop their character for understanding success, and as a result they believe and understand their curriculum.

Please describe how your project has been successful and how that success is measured

L-O-V-E’s website, which is the primary source for activating this powerful Act of Giving, is up and running (www.givingdreamsanopportunity.com). On this site individuals will be able to begin presenting their goals that they wish to achieve. Our success will be measured by how many people choose to contribute to this system. “A new conception of life cannot be imposed on men; it can only be freely assimilated. And it can only be freely assimilated in two ways: one spiritual and internal, the other experimental and external.” ~Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God Is Within You~ What does this mean? It means some of you can visualize your small contribution adding incredible value to the education of students when it’s made with millions of others. It means some of you can visualize the progress students can achieve when they’re INVOLVED in their passions. It means some of you will visualize a world not bound by public educational systems and an opportunity to begin personal educational systems. It means some of you will visualize the importance of getting the word out that there is an opportunity here to change the way we pursue dreams or goals. It means some of you will not wait to see if the rest of the world contributes one dollar a month before you decide to contribute one dollar a month.

How many people have been impacted by your project?

Fewer than 100

How many people could be impacted by your project in the next three years?

More than 10,000

How will your project evolve over the next three years?

We want to see L-O-V-E go global, but more importantly we want people to understand what kind of power exist when everyone continues to contribute $1 every month. This giving power opens the doors for new ways of doing business. Existing businesses will want to tap into this new source of potential clients and business associates. Financial institutions will want to provide assistance to the students and clients who are backed by the Giving power. We will work with educational systems to help give students a purpose for their curriculum and we will instil the knowledge and understanding of the great successful thinkers. In the end we will shift toward a new conception of life; one that truly understands and utilizes the power of Giving.

What barriers might hinder the success of your project and how do you plan to overcome them?

If the masses don’t clearly understand what we are offering then they will not contribute. Since their contributions determine our success, we have to convey a clear message about how their continuous contributions make the significant impact. Our goal is to put our plan of pursuit and image in front of as many people as possible and ask them to find the truth in its ability. We want the leaders who believe and understand our message to speak up and support our message. Our goal is to reach a point where the feeling or action of giving through L-O-V-E is common place in people’s daily routine.

Tell us about your partnerships

As our students/clients begin their involvement, they will begin creating relationships with businesses and/or organizations. These relationships will develop their talents and abilities creating specialized knowledge. The relationships will also provide the experience of networking and the consciousness to see available opportunities of advancement. Together—L-O-V-E, the students, and new partners—will develop a plan for our students which all parties understand. L-O-V-E will learn from these relationships and find new ways of helping our student’s progress. The amount of partnerships or business relationships is limitless.
Other partners of interest are individuals and/or organizations interested in making a social impact in education.

Current annual budget of project, in US dollars

$50,001‐100,000

Explain your selections

When L-O-V-E says “We are asking everyone to contribute,” we mean every individual, every business, every organization, every entity operating within our society. Why, because that puts the whole network of society on the same team pursuing the same goal. In other words, with a simple $1 contribution we can move a portion of everyone’s energy toward a common goal. We are not asking for .50 cent or $1.25. We are asking for a $1. That is four little quarters every month. With all these individuals and institutions working together we can change the way we pursue our goals. Everyone who is having an inspiration to pursue a dream or goal can get the necessary leadership and funding to bring their thoughts to life.

How do you plan to strengthen your project in the next three years?

The obvious plan to strengthen our project is to add more people, businesses, and organizations to the contributing end. Thus, the best way to do this is to get the current students involved in their dreams, goals, or careers and begin recording and displaying their success to non-believers. When these non-believers see the students becoming progressive and thinking for themselves, then they too will search to see what difference we can offer them. In the end we will transform non-believers into believers. L-O-V-E has no fantasies that every student or client will achieve the exact goal that they originally set out for, but we do know that these students will learn along the way that “difficulties” are as much of a part of success as the goal itself. We know that students will learn and understand that other opportunities will arise during the pursuit of their dreams. These types of lessons or understandings build confidence. Confidence develops persistence and persistence paired with a good leader will create future successes. Again, L-O-V-E’s goal is to change the way we learn by changing the way we think!

Which barriers to employment does your innovation address?
Please select up to three in order of relevancy to your project.

PRIMARY

Lack of skills/training

SECONDARY

Lack of visibility and investment

TERTIARY

Lack of access to information and networks

Please describe how your innovation specifically tackles the barriers listed above.

First of all, if a student does not have a purpose for pursuing a goal, then they will have difficulty being interested in achieving that goal. Lack of skills and training exist because the educational system that most individuals go through isn’t targeted toward giving students a purpose for their curriculum. They don’t even realize how the material their studying benefits them because they aren’t asking themselves what goals they want to achieve. They only know that good grades get them to the next grade. But pass or fail, in the end students still don’t know what they want to do and it isn’t until later in life that most finally decide what they want and begin building specialized knowledge. The lack of visibility, investment, etc. all fall under the reasons given above.

Are you trying to scale your organization or initiative?
If yes, please check up to three potential pathways in order of relevancy to you.

PRIMARY

Grown geographic reach: Global

SECONDARY

Enhanced existing impact through addition of complementary services

TERTIARY

Repurposed your model for other sectors/development needs

Please describe which of your growth activities are current or planned for the immediate future.

(1)By the end of the second quarter of 2013, L-O-V-E hopes to be working with most developed countries. (2)L-O-V-E is also planning on launching four sister companies to help generate monstrous amounts of funding for clients of L-O-V-E. (3)When the majority of people, businesses, and other entities are contributing regularly through L-O-V-E then L-O-V-E has the opportunity to aim that cooperation toward other common goals that the contributors are seeking. These could be for health issues, helping with natural disasters, or even boosting economies in underdeveloped countries or regions.

Do you collaborate with any of the following: (Check all that apply)

Government, Technology providers, NGOs/Nonprofits, For profit companies, Academia/universities.

If yes, how have these collaborations helped your innovation to succeed?

Our goal is to collaborate with all of these. Again, it is the commitment or contribution of all entities and individuals that creates the network of cooperation.
