Rosa Marie Child Playtime Center is an indoor play center emphasizing early childhood anti obesity and healthy nutrition.

Healthy, happy children are deserving of a world with loving parents who participate in their nutrition, education and cultural activities. The partnering of loving parents and child caring adults along with youth interested in working with young children to save for college in a creative wellness environment can help make the world a more conducive place for better living. Children will have fun playing with wonderful, colorful soft sculptures made by Playtime Experiences, where they can crawl, jump, run, and slide for physical exercise. They can enjoy the art and music room, story time room, architectural room, and riding toy room learning the traffic signs while using their own muscles to move about. The party room will have a choice of party packages to meet different budgets.

Entry Form title

Rosa Marie Child Playtime Center is an indoor play center emphasizing early childhood anti obesity and healthy nutrition.

What change do you want to bring to the world?

What are the primary activities of your project?

The project will have a variety of activities to promote anti-obesity in young children by encouraging them to keep moving. Healthy foods will contribute to good nutrition such as instead of cake, there will be child size cupcakes (sweet potato, carrot ...) with limited processed sugar. Dancing and moving around to jukebox music will be available. Physical, cultural and creative activities will help parents and children to make a change in their lifestyle to promote wellness. Families invest in their children in this area. My motto is: Parents hold their child's hand for a short time but their hearts forever!

What is innovative about your initiative? How is it a new contribution to the field?

First of all I don't know of any child centered business using the anti-bacterial soft sculptures in a setting promoting wellness along with other cultural activities and heathy nutrition in partnership with parents and adult child care providers. Columbia Mall in Columbia, Maryland has a soft sculpture play area but no other activities. Children cry when they have to leave. Many of the parents, grandparents, nannies, child care providers are foreigners and nationals. Social relationships can be encouraged. My business gives them other activities to participate in as well as create an environment of creativity, wellness and healthy nutrition. I will be bringing in guest speakers such as Dr. Benjamin Carson (a personal friend) and others to discuss wellness and good nutrition themes. These will be free to the public to encourage a change in lifestyle for healthy bodies and good nutrition. Free wellness literature will also be available. I will contribute to the efforts of First Lady Michelle Obama " Get Moving!"

What stage is your project in?

Idea phase

Tell us about the community that you engage? eg. economic conditions, political structures, norms and values, demographic trends, history, and experience with engagement efforts.

Columbia, Maryland is a family oriented community with an excellent school system and high education population. Columbia is part of Howard County, the third richest county in the nation and the first in Maryland. Jim Rouse, a banker, envisioned Columbia to be opened to all ethnic groups for equal housing opportunities. It is a diverse community with many cultural activities, parks, shops, concerts and medical facilities.

Share the story of the founder and what inspired the founder to start this project

I love children. I want them to be happy and healthy. When I take my grandson to the mall to play in the Howard County Hospital and Johns Hopkins Medicine sponsored play area (their theme is wellness) I see a way of expanding that socialization to include a child centered facility for art, music, reading, birthday parties, architecture and riding toys. Parents are looking for wonderful, creative, healthy places to take their young children without having to spend tons of money, They too want a place where they can comfortably sit and watch their children be active while listening to beautiful music and participate with them while painting, playing kiddie instruments, building palaces and towers, listening to stories and watching them ride trikes and riding toys. My business will be safe and stimulating. It will also help youth interested in a child related field to work to earn funds for college. Worldwide communities can have such a facility to help better lives of families and children.

This Entry is about (Issues)

Please describe how your project has been successful and how that success is measured

I need funding to start. Just by visualizing what goes on at the Columbia Mall play area demonstrates its success. You need to visit it and ask the parents and children in order to demonstrate its positive effectiveness. It's wonderful!

How many people have been impacted by your project?

Fewer than 100

How many people could be impacted by your project in the next three years?

More than 10,000

How will your project evolve over the next three years?

Start up funds are needed to develop my idea. Marketing the idea through an open house, web site, brochures, literature and advertising are necessary. Playtime Experiences is working with me in developing the plans. I have many contacts since I taught and retired in this area. I have an excellent reputation and credit score. I have a SBA counselor I'm working with but was told I need collateral which I do not have. As I succeed from year to year, I hope to expand by moving to other identifiable areas needing to promote early childhood anti-obesity and healthy nutritional birthday parties and special children's events serving party foods.

What barriers might hinder the success of your project and how do you plan to overcome them?

The only barrier that might hinder the success of my project is turning families away due to too many children in the (5000 square foot start up) center. Most times the mall play center is too crowded and for safety reasons I wait to take my grandson in after walking around the mall waiting for the area to thin out. My business will have other areas for children's activities when the soft sculpture area is too busy.

Tell us about your partnerships

Partnerships with parents enjoying activities with children only. No business partnerships.

Current annual budget of project, in US dollars

$250,001‐500,000

Explain your selections

Revenues from admission fee (one time daily fee of $10.00 per child/person); different party packages fees, Suzuki private violin fees and $3.00 art fee. I will have family and friends help me set up along with talented high school art students. I have been collecting toys and supplies whenever I found sales and buyouts.

How do you plan to strengthen your project in the next three years?

I will strengthen my project through many professional friends who are offering free services to help me realize my dream: lawyers, nutritionists, educators, CPA's, business individuals, carpenters and electricians.
