Beggary Fighting Center: Yemen Education and Relief Organization aims to help get children off the streets and back into schools as well as providing mothers with skills for job creations.

Location

Sanaa

Many Yemeni children are begging and peddling on the streets to make money to help their families meet their daily needs. As the area is stricken with conflict, the number is expected to increase. Education is not necessarily a beacon of hope because these families can't buy the required uniform and fees for these children to attend the "free" goverment schools. YERO has established various educational initiatives to empower the families and decrease the self- reliance on these children as well as giving them hope for a brighter future.

Reason:

Seeing this initiative in practice and having met some of the children, I have witnessed how this program has given hope to people who felt they had none. It helps to break the cycle of poverty in a country by creating jobs in which these families can desperately use as well as giving these children a different more positive outlook. Education of mothers have become at forefront in the battle of poverty. By helping mothers develop new skills, it not only helps in job creation, but also in developing self- confidence and image in these ladies as well as making them self-reliant. It educates the people on the importance of promoting equal opportunities in education for both girls and boys. This gives these children a brighter future.
